American bison cows head out of a trailer on on to their new home on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in the northeast Denver suburb of Commerce City, Colo., Saturday, March 17, 2007. Sixteen wild bison from the National Bison Range in Montana were released to mark the event, which is a major milestone in both the ecological restoration of the Colorado site and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's wild bison conservation efforts. To think of all the "carbon credits" that will be needed to compensate for this action boggles the mind.

Kales said Fish and Wildlife officials don't believe the bison will try to get out of their enclosure, but employees will have tranquilizer guns and escape plans ready as a precaution.

Uh, didn't they also try that in Jurassic Park? With mixed results?

Minor quibble with the article: How do wild bison roam free in an enclosed 1400 acre area? 1400 acres isn't that big.

When I lived in North Dakota a rancher had begun to cross breed buffalo and cattle to create an animal named the Beefalo. The food was lower in fat and the Beffalo Burgers and steaks were excellent.

At one BarBque I tasted Beffalo, Elk and even Moose burgers.

Burp!

I certainly hope these Bison do not reproduce. Imagine the amount of methane gas they would generate, adding to Al Gores Global Swarming problem!
