Marchers for the Interfaith Walk for Climate Rescue brave the wind and biting snow on Bridge Street at the outset of an eight-day walk to Boston. |
Walkers descended the steps of the Unitarian Society building on Main Street in Northampton around 2 p.m., with supporters singing "Keep on Walking Forward" by Pat Humphries, while elementary school students with signs reading "Stop Global Warming Now" lined the walkway to send them off into the storm.
"We will walk through it," said the Rev. Andrea Ayvazian of the Haydenville Congregational Church, an organizer of the event. "This is truly an historical moment where people are reaching up and grabbing hold of this issue."
The cause drew 127 men, women and children for the first eight-mile leg of the trip, expected to end tonight at the Grace Episcopal Church in Amherst, where walkers will spend the night before departing for Belchertown tomorrow.
Participants planned to cross the Coolidge Bridge before turning onto Route 47 in Hadley, but a car accident on the bridge may alter their plans.
See more on the march in Saturday's Gazette.
Useful idiots...

LATE-BREAKING INFORMATION:
The Interfaith Walk for Climate Rescue proceeds on schedule, regardless of weather conditions. We encourage walkers to use their own judgment about whether or not to participate. While Walk organizers may choose to proceed, we reserve the right to limit participation of other walkers based on safety considerations. We will shuttle registered walkers to the next host site or to that day's starting point if for any reason they are unable to walk.
A moral call for swift, bold, and comprehensive political action to address global warming
the pic in the Globe had someone carrying a sign with a picture of the Earth and it said something like "will I be able to live in this world?"
I wonder if anyone threw any "global-warming"(snow)balls
at them? How much global warming did people have to shovel
today...
Let's pretend Global Warming is happening for the sake of this post.
How is getting a bunch a people to walk in the snow helping the situation??? People are so lame...
I wonder how many people have suffered from hypothermia or frostbite because Al told them they are warm?
Two British skiers who froze to death were warned of bad weather
I hope they all die of hypothermia.
I guess we all know that global warming causes snowstorms :o)
Didn't want you to miss this... "Too PERFECT" is right.

Ping me if you find one I've missed.
Can't see the blizzard because they're flakes.
Surely this is from The Onion.
Elaborately constructed by using the name of at least on real church
and it's pastor:

While we're on the topic of global-warming nuts being exposed by
their own exploits...
Here's jewel that folks might have missed earlier in the week.
It was posted a number of times, but it gets funnier with each read.

The Meteorological is Political
They are scheduled to leave the Twin Cities on Wednesday and start their 530-plus-mile trip from Canada's Ward Hunt Island on March 4. While their previous treks have focused on inspiring students to live their dreams, the two women are making the journey this time to draw attention to global warming. This time, the two explorers decided they had an opportunity to show kids the effects of climate change in real time in an area "that's in real crisis," as Bancroft put it. They'll call in regular updates on satellite phone and will try to send photos to be posted on the Web, she said. Sadly, their global warming odyssey was cut short today because of this inconvenient truth: World-renowned polar explorers and educators, Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen, today suspended their historic expedition to the North Pole seven days in, citing severe safety concerns due to a combination of damaged gear, frostbite and extreme cold. No photos of this up on the web site yet. Probably not the crisis they were hoping to document for the kids. |

Some Like It Hot
Whilst watching the Gopher hockey squad down the Badgers tonight (A Minnesota-North Dakota WCHA tourney final? Who'd have thunk it?), I was also able to catch some of Marlo Lewis' presentation on C-Span that debunks much of what Al Gore espouses in "A Inconvenient Truth":
Marlo Lewis, Senior Fellow, Competitive Enterprise Institute talks about global climate change and critiques former Vice President Al Gore's Academy Award-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." Mr. Lewis finds the film's claims about climate science and climate policy to be unconvincing. Mr. Lewis spoke to congressional staff and the media in the Rayburn Office Building. You can find a link to the video here. |
