Although the former New York mayor leads U.S. Sen. John McCain among all categories, his lead is only seven points (31-24) among weekly churchgoers, compared to 28 points (47-19) among those who attend church nearly weekly or monthly, and 27 points (49-22) among those who seldom or never attend church.
The data, released March 15, combined two polls of Republican voters and Republican-leaning independents -- one conducted Feb. 9-11, the other March 2-4.

"Out there" - Rudy is NOT being bashed. Only here. It doesn't appear to be hurting him.
Rudy stacks up well against Hillary!; it's hard to imagine even the most conservative voters hesitating to vote with the fear of her in their minds. Gore, OTOH, appeals a little more to the middle 5-10%, but even more importantly, could tip the 1-3% hard right into passivity. Ask yourself this question: while you may dislike Gore, does he stir the same visceral reaction as Clinton?
If the Dems are smart and nominate Gore, then the GOP is going to have to reconsider Rudy. If the Dems want to commit suicide and nominate Hillary!, then the GOP has much more flexibility.
So you are accusing this magazine of printing a Gallup poll for money? That does not sound like the Baptists I went to church with as a child. Nor those I hear today.
Paranoid and/or baseless accusations are not going to beat Giuliani. You better figure that out pretty quick if you hope to have ANY success in beating him.
What makes Thompson so good for president - what did he do in the Senate that was wonderful and was so Reaganesque that you guys are drooling over him? CO-SPONSOR McCAIN FEINGOLD?? Do you like his accomplishments in the Senate or his character on TV? Just curious.
Hillary already beat Rudy once (in 2000). She would do it again in 2008 if it came to that.
Its not my fault that the baptist's embraced a MSM poll.....
Hey I will vote for Fred or Duncan.....but if Rudy gets the nod....I'll write in Fred or Duncan....
I see no major difference between Rudy and Hillary....so perhaps just for a nano-second you can see my point of view.
Yeah, I just don't get how the "Rudyphobes" can be so myopic. If I didn't believe in the importance of the War on Terror (and the lives of my already born children), in the need to get back to budget control and cut spending, in putting conservative judges on the bench, and in needing a leader who can get elected...I guess that I would be afraid of Rudy too. But, I believe Rudy can win and will hold the line on abortion while also championing the issues above which are important to me.
If I were a "one issue voter" I guess I would be afraid of Rudy too.
How does publishing a poll "embrace" it? If it ran a picture of a murder victim would you think it approved of the murder?
If you don't get it....I won't try to take the time to explain.....
If Rudy had only one issue that scared me....I'd consider voting for him....but his position on Guns, Abortion, Judges....and his self admitted RINO comments make him unacceptable....I'll bend, but I won't sell out.
He has a pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment record. That's good enough for me.
CO-SPONSOR McCAIN FEINGOLD??
OK, so you're willing to compromise on abortion and guns, but leave no room to compromise on CFR. Is this because you support abortion rights and gun control, or is there another reason?
And I'm still waiting for your explanation of why Thompson would split up the party when freepers on all sides are claiming the exact opposite.
Oh I get it very well. You don't like the results of the poll so you cry "crooked" to try and discredit it. This is a common practice around here and is typically an admission of defeat.
Because the hard core conservatives will vote for Thompson and the moderates, Independents and Middle of the Road Republicans will vote for Rudy, McCain and/or Romney. Not a good thing if you ask me. Splits the votes pretty good if you ask me.
A "Fishrrman you read it here first" prediction:
Fred Thompson is going to be the GOP VICE-presidential candidate in 2008.
- John
Intersting prediction! That could be very possible.
Oh come on.....you think polls are accurate?
We learned this lesson in the last election.
Well obviously, some of us didn't....
Especially the Rudybots....LOL
The real issue is that these folks recognize the gig is up for them if Rudy can be nominated and win despite their adament opposition. The tail will no longer wag the dog. So it is a matter of their loss of power in and over the GOP. Then many of the most bitter Rudyphobes are not even Republicans.
The polls are reasonably accurate within the margin of error. So Giuliani may not be leading McCain by 20 pts. but only by 15 and Hunter may not have 1% but may have 2.
Polls last Nov had the Republican losing big time and they did.
Can polls be manipulated? Sure. Are they sometimes totally unrepresentative? Absolutely. Just look at the FR polls showing Hunter has a big lead. You don't really believe that do you? You don't really believe Rudy is not leading either do you? You would just dispute the lead.
Okay I'll give you that much (I understand that is important) but what did he accomplish in the Senate that makes him a good candidate to be president?
