Here's the problem for the U.S.: At the center of the current crisis is a new leftist president who has already formed an alliance with the American-hating Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, and is now threatening to kick all American military personnel out of Ecuador. And all this, just as Ecuador becomes increasingly critical in the U.S. war on drugs.

In Latin America, populism usually trumps rule-of-law, and what you get is a never-ending cycle of leaders who come into power supposedly to set things right, but only make it worse. Sometimes these populists have a leftist complexion, sometimes rightist, sometimes like Chavez a mix of the two, but in the end the effect is the same. More centralized power, more centralized corruption, not less. And more "survival" corruption, by which people form their own informal relationships in order to overcome official dysfunction.

Chavez and Correa are just the same thing in a higher dosage. What makes them a problem for us is their willingness to join in a conspiracy explicitly aimed at us, and a willingness to join with our enemies in other regions, their willingness to allow guerrillas to operate from their territory, and their support for conspirators in neighboring countries.

Chavist-style populism is the natural heresy of Latin America, and it will be a rare politician who will have the nerve or even the understanding to try and stand against it. They have already launched attempts at gaining power in Peru, and Mexico, and will undoubtedly try again and again.

We're letting millions of these SOBs invade our country, and don't give me any crap about how they're the best of these societies and will be conservatives and enhance our nation when they get here. They'll turn this country into the same sort of pest hole SA is. What this scumbag and his counterpart in Bolivia want is to make drugs into (even more of) the basis of their economies since they and their peoples are incapable of success in any other endeavor. Sickening. But it isn't just about money, they see it as a sort of national and racial chemical warfare, a conscious attempt at poisoning our society, mostly because we stand as a humiliating contrast to their failure. Build the wall or die.

Most illegal immigration comes from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. This article does not directly pertain to illegal immigration at all.
