Giuliani leads McCain by 16 percentage points, a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll finds.
WASHINTON (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has opened up a double-digit lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Monday indicates.
Thirty-four percent of registered Republicans support Giuliani, while 18 percent support McCain, the poll finds. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are each tied at nine percent in the poll.
In a similar CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted at the end of January, McCain trailed Giuliani by only six percentage points, registering 26 percent to Giuliani's 34 percent.

ROFLMAO!! Rudy scared of Thompson? I don't think so. I think McCain is more frightened than Rudy. Rudy does not scare easily.
Please explain to me how Rudy will fight terrorism better than anyone else? What is his experience working with the military? What would Rudy do about Iraq? Iran? Syria? You don't care about illegal immigration? Gun control? While I agree that the WOT is a huge issue, we will have other issues right here at home that will have a serious impact on us as well. For the life of me I don't understand what makes Rudy the best thing there is regarding the WOT. Is it because he refused the money from the Shiek?
The GOP candidate will be decided by the MSM after they figure out who they want Ms Rodham to defeat.
I suspect they'd prefer a RINO so that conservative ideas won't be heard at all this election.
You can strike out McCain, though he does have the military background, he has no regard, probably outright disdain for the document he will be sworn to uphold, the Constitution.
I'd like to see the source for your George Will quote:
"Do you think Roe v Wade was good constitutional law?"
Will as a general rule, does not interview.
Me wonders what would happen to Guiliani's lead if Fred Thompson should throw his hat in the ring?
After what cBS and rather did (and the subsequent actions taken by Freepers to bring the network to it's knees); one should not reference as factual that lying broadcast nest of commies and muzzie lovers IMHO.
LLS
He was there on 9/11. That was his city. And he knows what we are fighting for. He is a natural born leader. After 9/11 he became a leader for the entire country.
and even before that. He got rid of the liberal bs "hug a thug" policy cleaned up New York City.
HUH?
The answer is clear, but you don't want to hear it.
Don't you know that only winning matters, even if it means prostituting yourself to the media pimps and their lackeys.
How about someone with absolutely no military training or backround whatsoever? Never served and never wanted to?
Yes, Rudy should be very concerned about Fred Thompson running.
He will split the primaries between the Conservatives and moderates and possibly giving MaCain the opportunity to win a splintered primary.
" I am behind Rudy because I believe he will be a legendary war time President. "
Why? His draft evasion? His lies and corrupt appointments? What makes you think he has the ability to be a President?
I think you guys said that about Duncan Hunter too - but you can dream all you want. Outside of FR Fred Thompson is not that well known as a politician. He is known more for being a TV Star. He is hardly the political rock star you think he is outside of FR.
It would shrink considerably...
Looks like zotted vagabond scoundrel :-)
I can only hope that the RudyLib is truly a "flash in the pan". The man is morally bankrupt, and the MSM is waiting, licking its lips, waiting for us to nominate him, so alllll the dirty laundry can be flogged again and again and again. Every dang night.
Disagreed. He's well enough known as an actor to get people interested in learning more about him. Is it an uphill battle? Sure...but more of a soft incline than a mountain.
