Former Iranian General and assistant defense minister Ali Rez Asghari left Iran using a new passport and pseudonym and managed to smuggle important intelligence documents, according to a report published Friday morning by London based newspaper Asharaq Alawsat.

According to the report, the missing Iranian general was carrying documents and maps of Iran's military and intelligence infrastructure as well as information regarding the relations between the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Hizbullah and the Islamic Jihad.

In addition, the general was reported to possess information regarding the Iranian nuclear program as well as information about Iran's strategic military plans.

Meanwhile, Turkish newspapers reported that three Iranians disappeared in Turkey, following allegations that they attempted to smuggle missiles into Iran.

Turkish newspapers reported Friday morning that the three Iranians, who owned Turkish companies operating, disappeared late last year following their attempts to smuggle spare used missile parts to Iran.

Reportedly, the attempt to export American-made rocket pieces to Iran, was foiled when Turkish customs informed the US authorities of the sale.

Turkish newspapers reported that the three Iranians disappeared shortly after the incident, last December.

The CIA is really unwilling to play the propaganda game. Thus its computers are loaded with material that should be made available to the American public, but never will be. This reminds me of the time when Rumanian intell chief Pacepa came over to the West. I believe it was something like ten years before he himself wrote a book that was a best-seller in the USA, and one of the most informative of its type ever produced. A buck will get you ten that this guy will disappear into the CIA maw and will not be spit out soon, if ever.

following their attempts to smuggle spare used missile parts to Iran.

How can you have a "used" missile part?

The Reagan gameplan practically excluded the CIA leadership except for Casey. If you read material on their various operations you find that Reagan trusted his old friend Casey, but Casey did not trust his own spooks. It is a pity that Bush II has never had anyone at CIA who was personally close.

This is assuming the guy is turning over valid information. Its possible this could all be an elaborate Iranian hoax. We've been fooled in the past.

Structurally, this doesn't seem right. Any information he gives us will be brand new and investigation of it will be profitable for us without draining us of vital resources. The Russian "defectors" who screwed us up did so because they made us suspicious of people we should have trusted, and trust people we should have suspected, in the double-agent game; but everyone knew everyone else's names already in that game. With Iran, we are not worried about "moles", just about strategy and tactics, and if his leads check out that's good for us but if they don't he hasn't done much damage.

Yes. true, so true. Actually, as has been pointed out on other threads - mostly concerned with the Plame affair, Able Danger and Iraqi connections to terrorists - some of the present Adminstration's bitterest enemies can be traced to the CIA in the 80s. (When they were bypassed by Casey and his people - not to speak of History!)

Kenneth Timmerman on Quinn and Rose talking about this now. He noted that ALL of the Iranians who have escaped have done so with PRIVATE help and the CIA has not been involved in helping any of these people get out. He said that under Bush lots of young, patriotic, qualified people have come in, but that the CIA was absolutely shattered by Clinton and Deutsch.

"I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck... maybe even a "recreational vehicle." And drive from state to state. Do they let you do that?"

Nancy Pelosi will want to see your papers.

'SPARE USED MISSLE PARTS'....????

Where the HE** does someone purchase such things....???

GAO auctions....???

Also "used missile" would suggest it's been FIRED...???

The only thing I can surmise is that they might be trying to reverse-engineer stuff from outmoded NATO goods.

Also, remember that the info was translated from Turkish to Hebrew and then to English. (Ynet is an Israeli news source.)

I think the translator intially wrote two words that could convey the meaning of a word used in the original language and then forgot to take away the one that was not applicable in this situation ("used").
