'We Will Make Our Priorities The Law Of The Land," Abortion Rights Group Says

Celebrating their victories in last November's 2006 midterm election, the Democratic women's group Emily's List said Tuesday it was looking ahead to a "President Hillary Clinton" in the White House.

"In 2008 we're going to finish the job. We're going to send George W. Bush back to his ranch and welcome President Hillary Clinton," Emily's List President Ellen Malcolm told supporters in Washington, D.C.

The group, which says it is "dedicated to building a progressive America by electing pro-choice Democratic women to federal, state, and local office," endorsed Clinton for president in January.

"We have two houses back, the House and the Senate - only one to go," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during Tuesday's function.

"We want a Democratic candidate who can win," Malcolm said. "I'm tired of losing.

"The time has come to elect Hillary Clinton to the presidency," she said. "The time has come to elect a president with her commitment to women and children. The time has come to elect a president who will protect a woman's rights, particularly their reproductive rights."

"We will make our priorities the law of the land," Malcolm added.

Clinton, who received a standing ovation from the Emily's List women, said, "We need to make the changes that will lift up our children, our families and our communities."

Clinton said the changes must address the pay gap between men and women, universal healthcare coverage, and Iraq.

"If this president will not end this war in Iraq, then as the next president of the United States, I will," she reiterated.

"Let me be clear, we are prepared to do whatever it takes to protect and defend the American people," added Pelosi. "As the Speaker and a mother, I believe the war in Iraq is the greatest ethical challenge facing our country."

"The war in Iraq is not making our country safer, our military stronger or the region more stable," she said.

Mike Mears, executive director of conservative Concerned Women Political Action Committee, questioned the references to women and children.

"Since when is being in the pocket of an organization that promotes abortion a commitment to women and children?" he asked.

Mears told Cybercast News Service that Emily's List priorities "are not necessarily the priorities of American women who overwhelmingly reject the notion that to be a modern woman, you have to be pro-choice. When will these women figure out they don't speak for most women in America?

"It isn't by accident that when Emily's List makes its case during an election year they talk about positions besides abortion, because they know being pro-choice ... is no longer a winning issue," he said.

"If in fact, a President Hillary makes their issues 'the law of the land,' I can almost guarantee a pro-life Congress the next election," Mears predicted.

Which children are we lifting up here?

1) The ones that escaped the labia.
2) The ones harvested for their stem cells via dissection and uteran vacuuming.

I'm just curious.

"Let me be clear, we are prepared to do whatever it takes to protect and defend the American people," added Pelosi.

That is unless you are between .1 and 270 days old. Then you are a meaningless blob with no protections at all.

The millions of aborted babies had no "Choice" or "Rights"
did they. The blood of the slaughtered innocents is the banner raised by the Pro Death advocates. Enjoy your little nirvana down here abortionists. You will be banned from the glorious eternal heaven while the slaughtered innocents will be dancing on the streets of gold...forever.

Partial birth abortion is murder. plain and simple. Abortion is wrong.
The only good thing is that the majority of those having abortions are democrats.

If a person thinks it is OK to kill a baby, then they are capable of ANYTHING. I would not trust them in government nor in moral issues.
They are a plague on this country.

Abortion is not about saving women’s lives!

Studies Find Abortions Have Long-Term Effects

45,951,133

Total Abortions since 1973

------------------------------------------------------------

Why the drop after 1960? (in deaths of women from illegal abortions)

The reasons were new and better antibiotics, better surgery and the establishment of intensive care units in hospitals. This was in the face of a rising population. Between 1967 and 1970 sixteen states legalized abortion. In most it was limited, only for rape, incest and severe fetal handicap (life of mother was legal in all states). There were two big exceptions — California in 1967, and New York in 1970 allowed abortion on demand. Now look at the chart carefully.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Abortion Statistics - Decision to Have an Abortion (U.S.)

· 25.5% of women deciding to have an abortion want to postpone childbearing

· 21.3% of women cannot afford a baby

· 14.1% of women have a relationship issue or their partner does not want a child

· 12.2% of women are too young (their parents or others object to the pregnancy)

· 10.8% of women feel a child will disrupt their education or career

· 7.9% of women want no (more) children

· 3.3% of women have an abortion due to a risk to fetal health

2.8% of women have an abortion due to a risk to maternal health

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So how many women’s lives have been saved by abortion?

Only about 3% of abortions since 1972 were reported to be “due to a risk to maternal health.” A reasonable person would recognize that not all of those cases represent a lethal risk. But let’s say they did. That means that nearly 45 million fetuses were butchered to save the lives of about 1.3 million women. Or put another way; 35 babies are killed to save each woman.

Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman.

Thank you Tiger, but you do know you're preaching to the choir! And I'm not alone. Lots of women who 'bought into' that whole pro-coice thing have realized, as I have, that it's wrong no matter what 'the law' says!

re: We will make our priorities the law of the land

Hmmmm... Aren't these the people who say they fear the religous right because religious people always try to force others to live by their rules.

Once again we see the Left accusing the Right of doing something when it's really the Left that has done it, or would do it if it could.

Very telling.

I'm preaching to the choir I'm singing along with it. ; )

Don't forget the lurkers. I'm sure that many who support abortion and follow articles about it find our threads to see what we say about it. Throwing a few facts out, commonly buried by the MSM, makes for a good backbeat to the harmony.

You ask a liberal what they dislike about conservatives and the first thing they say is that conservatives want to force you to accept their rules and/or religion. Then they say conservatives want to pass laws that will enforce their rules/religion. Looks to me like, from this article, it's the other way around.

I frequently ask a liberal to name for me one conservative belief that they would make into a law if they could. The only answer I ever get is abortion. It doesn't matter to them that conservatives consider abortion to be killing an unborn baby, they insist it's all about religion.

I've noticed for years that liberals are a lot of talk, but when you come right down to it they're the ones guilty of what they accuse others of doing. Like their constant harping on the hate speech of the Right. Just listen to the venom they spew about GWB or the VP and tell me who it is that's using hate speech. Or they talk about stolen elections, but who is it that's always being charged with election fraud. The list goes on and on. They accuse their opponents of all sorts of nasty things, but they are the ones who are actually doing them.

"It doesn't matter to them that conservatives consider abortion to be killing an unborn baby, they insist it's all about religion."

For every statement that you made, you have a reason that I am no longer a Democrat. My whole family - all east coast -are Democrat.

Sometimes, it's hard for me NOT to think that souterners are smarter. Maybe their brains are frozen or something, I dunno.

No offense to my East Coast friends, some of whom are very thawed out!
