Edwards Not a Christian

Posted on 03/06/2007 1:44:41 AM PST by Trollkepr

John Edwards showed us he is not a Christian and has no idea what Jesus "would" think. The main tenant of Christianity is that Jesus, the only Son or God, came to Earth to die for the sins of man and that he was raised from the dead and rose to sit at the right hand of God. So what does Edwards comment that "I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs," mean? It means that if he was a Christian he would not have used the words "would be disappointed" but instead used the word "is disappointed".

As a Christian I am sure I disappoint my Savior Jesus Christ every day but mercifully his love for me covers that disappointment. As a Christian I am appalled that Edwards would think he had access to the mind of Christ and would use my God to manipulate people into voting for him.

Edwards is a fool who has absolutely no chance of winning even a single primary, nor of attracting sufficient donations to mount a credible campaign. He should be ignored.

What makes a person Christian?

Does one have to "walk the walk," or is mere profession of belief enough?

Hillary claims to be Christian, but her non-Christian positions on moral issues make me wonder.

Somehow, I don't think Jesus would live in a 10,000 square foot house.

I have no problem with Edwards statement -- what I have a problem with is that the man making the statement lives in a $20 million palace. Do you see the irony!!

This seems sooooo typical for the rich liberals. They either inherited their riches or they became rich like Edwards did and then they preach to all of us about how we over indulge ourselves at the expense of others. Meanwhile they give away a large sum of monies, which helps them feel self-righteous, but not so much money that it impacts their very extravagant lifestyle.

So they have the best of both worlds. They can live like kings, like Al Gore expending 20 times the norm of energy on his house, while at the same time feeling self-righteous since they gave away more money than you or I are able to and thus feel that they can preach to all of us about what WE should do and the sacrifices WE should make.

I would love to see someone put Edwards giving his statement on one side of the screen while on the other side a picture of his $20 palace --- the same for Al Gore saying how easy it is for us to cut back, etc., while at the same time on the other side of the screen putting a pic of his household and the record of the electricity bill for the past years, pics of the jets he flys on, cars he RIDES in (since I doubt that he drives), etc. and let people decide for themselves the veracity of the speaker and the message.

I think I'm going to leave that determination up to the Big Guy. Often I'll find myself mulling over that question in my mind and hopefully end up knowing that making that decision is way above my pay grade.

Now as far as him being anyone I'd want to emulate or elevate to the level of a leader I'm dead solid sure that he's not even close.

Mr Edwards is entitled to state his opinion, of course. It's a defendable statement, although personally I would be very averse to proclaiming exactly what Jesus would or would not say or do. It smacks too much of trying to "use" God, as others in this thread have said.

It isn't for you to judge who is and isn't a Christian. If they are a nominal Christian (the consider themselves Christian), they are to be viewed as Christians.

Of course, you can have your suspicions by their behavior, but it isn't for any human creature to judge any human creature.

Edwards is a trial lawyer.

I thought the two were mutually exclusive.

I'm having trouble with Christian logic, there's roughly 300 million
people in the US, and 224,437,959 identify themselves as Christian, only
38,865,604 identify themselves as nonreligious/secular, if this is the
case then why is the majority of our elected official's secularist?
Don't Christians elect people that share their Christian views? Don't
Christians want change in our secular schools from the current
(marxist/socialist propaganda)?
Don't Christians want laws that protect our unborn? Don't Christians
want to protect the sanctity of marriage? I'm confused and disheartened
that Christians don't have the faith or will to change our country for
the good.

If they are a nominal Christian (the consider themselves Christian), they are to be viewed as Christians.

I don't believe that is a scripturally supported claim. Of course we're not the ones who make the ultimate call (thank God!)...but how can we witness to false Christians if we are to assume they are saved? How can we turn a brother back to Christ if he's straying if we assume they are fine?

1st Corinthians chapter 6.

1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?

2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

Mathew, chapter 7

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

We are to judge. BUT we will be judged by the standards that we judged with.

Is a 6 million dollar new mansion considered a selfish short term need?
How many cases did Edwards take on for free when he was a practicing lawyer helping the poor by putting insurance out of the reach of Doctors.

This little Breck Girl gets to me, with his helping the poor BS. He is like all the rest. Out to help himself by USING the poor.
