Is It Time For Conservatives To Get Vicious?

Two stories have surfaced in recent days which clearly indicate that the definition of what is considered viciousness in politics needs to be examined.

On his HBO program Real Time this past Friday, Bill Maher asked his panel why it was necessary for the Huffington Post to remove comments by readers regarding their disappointment that the recent assassination attempt on Vice President Dick Cheney failed. During the course of the conversation, Maher went over the top by saying in effect that the world would be a safer place if the attempt had succeeded.

Also on Friday, political pundit Ann Coulter, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, raised some eyebrows and a little laughter when she said "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot', so I - so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."

Coulter is taking heat from both the right and the left for her remarks. John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney have all denounced her comments. And of course, democrats are seething, although the Edwards campaign took the opportunity to raise donations, referring to contributions as "Coulter cash".

There is a tremendous difference between the remarks by Coulter and Maher. Maher implying that Cheney's assassination should have succeeded is by far more despicable than anything that Coulter could ever have uttered. Yet there is virtual silence regarding Maher's vitriol from anyone on the left, while Coulter has been getting it with both barrels from people on both sides of the aisle.

Perhaps it would benefit conservatives to start becoming more vicious. For far too long, those on the right have taken the high road when it comes to political discourse. Maybe we need more people like Coulter to start ramming epithets down the throats of these liberal monsters who have made the politics of personal destruction their mission. Maniacs like Terry McAuliffe, Al Franken and Howard Dean have lashed out in angry dialogue against conservatives virtually unchecked, while every comment regarding the left is expected to be couched in political correctness.

No more. It's time for the Right to get angry. It's time to roll up our sleeves and get down in the mud with these knuckle draggers and start giving them a taste of their own medicine unapologetically. Let's start calling a spade a spade and expose the evil of the Left once and for all.

I applaud Ann Coulter for the cojones she displayed in ripping John Edwards. I hope she continues to let the liberals have it at every available opportunity. And I sincerely hope more conservatives will wake up and start speaking out.

Ann Coulter...you go, girl!

No! We don't have to be vicious,we just have to be tougher and Not allow the Dims to obfuscate and control the political discourse in this country.

When the Dims get stupid and make dumb remarks we have to attack and challenge them. Not just allow them to get away with it.

If domestic viciousness would in any way promote positively any of the causes you just listed, then I would sign up

Your right, of course, but don't you think some of the groups listed above aren't just a little bit pi$$ed, and would really like it if somebody would stand up for them.

I guess it really depends on your definition of "viciousness". I am not, and will not advocate violence, but I will "fight" for the people who I think can bring our country back into line.

In NYC they have made it a crime to say the 'N Word'. But from what I've read, it's only when white people say it.

Is It Time For Conservatives To Get Vicious? I've been waiting for the headline "Is it Time For Conservatives to Calm the Viciousness."

I don't see how being aggressively vicious like Coulter really helps.

It's the only thing the left-wing freaks understand.

Yes, and what percentage of the contributions are coming from conflicted Conservatives?

Ann Coulter is just visciously stupid. Attacking John Edwards because he enjoys being a good looking guy is probably the only thing worse than mocking Obama's name. These kind of personal attacks do nothing but make the attackers look venal and the attacked look noble. If we can't win our elections on Democrats' bad conduct and bad ideas, then not only won't we deserve to win, we won't actually win, anyway.

The conservative's can never respond with any kind of response, because as long as we have a left wing media, they will always portay any response in a bad light, and somehow, any inane comment by a liberal in a good light. How do we get around that problem?

Go David Zublick. You and I think a lot alike. Our whole nation if not the world and our way of life is deteriorating because of political correctness and the lack of guts to fight against it. Ann is one of the few warriors that is not afraid to stand up to it. Even on these FR threads about it, I see gutless idiots (including the three major candidates for president) putting down Ann and saying how wrong she is. Even Michelle Malkin who just went down a few notches in my book. Maybe you all forgot that it is "all feely, crybaby, idiot, Liberals that act like that. I was going to vote for the guy running that would stick up for Ann but looks like there are no MEN running.

There is a BIG difference between "vicious" and "illegal".

Political campaigns are contests, and everything candidates do to win is should be seen by the voters. "Negative" campaigning works, despite being decried by the MSM; unless it goes past an unseen line, where "negative" becomes "offensive".

And "offensive", by the way, is NOT defined by the media or by one's political opponent, but by the voting public.

For example, bringing up Hillary's past offenses is neither offensive, or vicious, though her people will scream in agony that it is both. They are facts.

"Swift Boating" is certainly negative. But it is most certainly true. Truth is an absolute defense, even if it not a truth that a candidate wants the public to hear.

And when someone advocates the murder of the President or Vice President, then it is more than offensive, it is illegal. In such a case, it is not up to the voter to decide how to vote. It is up to a jury to decide guilt or innocence.
