King Tut's treasure was an attempt by the priests to buy carbon credits from the boy king. At his death he became "carbon neutral." Or very lazy. No one is really sure.

Wasn't franklin in some goofy social club, like the moose lodge or something?

Yes. The initiation required the applicant to bite someones sister.

Franklin was a Free Mason. The "Eye" is a Masonic symbol.

Nah...who would believe that silly claim? I mean, next you will argue that ALL the founders were masons, and that the US government is the embodiment of masonic ideals, or something utterly crazy like that...

I tell you, nobody would believe it!

The treasure the mason held in trust was not an idea, it was a hord of gold! It is under trinity church in NY, everybody knows that!

(LOLOLOL. This is fun).

"I have always questioned why the Egyptians Mayans and other ancient cultures built huge stone structures in the first place. "

Same reasons we do. But they build pyramid shaped structures because it was the only shape that they could build very big, and very high, that wouldn't fall over.

That's right and that's why we see the pyramid shape used through out the world.

At one time the Saraha Desert was forested. Overgrazing by shepards was not kind to it. Can't say how humid Egypt was at that time. I would suspect the priest would be thorough in any case, just in case there was any moisture left as a result of the embalming.

All just speculation on my part. Its probably more likely that the salt was in the clay used to make the mortar.

I know that we use calcium carbonate to melt road ice around here. Very corrosive on metal. Not certain what it would do to cloth.

I have to plead ignorance as to what they used for embalming. I thought it was some concoction of gum or myrhh that was placed in the body cavity to suck out the mosture. Perhaps salt has some religious significance. Perhaps none at all. We can have fun and speculate tho.

The salt used was natron, hydrated sodium carbonate.

There was a show in which a professor mummified a donated body. He brought in some material from Egypt ("and getting a few hundred pounds of a white substance through customs..." and followed whatever information he had.

Sort of. He left the body in the material longer than he should have, since when he first pulled it out, he didn't think it was dry enough, so back in it went.

The reason to pulled the body out before its completely "dry" is to be able to work with it and not snap off limbs trying to pose it in its final bound form, as the professor found out.

That's about all I remember from the show.

"The salt used was natron, hydrated sodium carbonate"
(In the mummifying process.)

I guess that what it comes down to is that without information on the salt crystals on the surface of the mortar in the shaft its hard to guess what the salt was doing there. .

It's the Eye of Horus. One of the (many?) symbolisms carried from the ancient Egyptians.
