Dispirited Conservatives Haunted by Unthinkable -a Clinton Victory
Times Online ^ | 3/2/2007 | TIM REID

Thousands of US conservatives gathered in Washington yesterday feeling betrayed by President Bush, dispirited by Republican presidential candidates and depressed by the once unthinkable: their failure to demonise Hillary Clinton. The thought of a female President Clinton once seemed a horrifying prospect, guaranteed to galvanise the Right just as her husband did in the 1990s.

But with morale among conservatives at its lowest ebb for over a decade, and the movement more fractured than at any point since the Cold War, the grassroots uprising against Mrs Clinton has so far failed to materialise. Many are now realising that the determination with which she has embarked on her quest for the Democratic nomination makes defeating her a formidable challenge.

“She’s moderated her image. She’s tougher on the War on Terror and she has not aligned herself with the antiwar Left. Some conservatives think she’s not all bad,” said Christopher Ruddy, who runs NewsMax, America’s biggest conservative online magazine.

I wonder why Ruddy is given any face time at a conservative event. I happen to know that the guy is a complete fraud.

Where do they come up wih this crap.

Certainly I dont know many Republicans who are happy with the sorry showing of the candidates that are lining up to run for the Party's nomination.

But I dont know of any who would vote against any of them and go with Hillary.

Any fool can see that any moderation shown by Hillary is an act.

Does anybody realize that the election is 20 months away? The 'uprising' against Hillary is coming, and The Times will be wringing their hands.

...conservative resurrection.

In 1992, Bill Weld, governor of Massachusetts at the time, was roundly booed by the Republican convention. There were only a few cheers.

Now, fifteen years later, Rudy Giuliani is the front runner for the Republican nomination. It looks like a conservative resurrection is not in our future; rather, a retrograde return to the Republican Party that Barry Goldwater took to task, and Ronald Regan buried.

The resurrection is not of conservatism.

I can say the Times writer has monkeys fly out his butt three times a day, but because I say it doesn't make it so.

Clinton wants hubby off limits to others

We’ll let you make up your own joke about this headline, but the message this week from the Clinton campaign was clear: Sen. Hillary Clinton is telling her fellow Demo presidential competitors that they’d better not mess with Bill. After last week’s dustup with Barack Hussein Obama and David Geffen, Clinton’s campaign wants it clear that no one is allowed to bring up his impeachment or his numerous ethical lapses in judgment. If they do, they will incur all the wrath that her minions can muster, which we believe is quite a bit.

True to Hillary’s nature, she wants to have it both ways. She wants free rein to talk up the good things of his administration (which should not take long), but not allow anyone to talk about the bad (which should carry us into the 2012 election season). Of course, anything injected into the public debate is fair game. If Hillary wants to wax nostalgic about the good old days of the 1990s, then her opponents have every right to remind voters that those good old days were not as good as they seemed.

In other campaign news, former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack withdrew from the race for the Demo presidential nomination this week, citing an inability to compete with big money names like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. That would explain why we didn’t realize he was running until he announced his decision to drop out. Like Sen. Evan Bayh, who also dropped out recently, Vilsack realized he would be unable to raise enough money to fight in what is increasingly becoming a front-loaded nomination schedule.

Hillary is indeed 'all bad', and any conservative who thinks otherwise should have their head examined. All steps towards 'moderation' have been taken with an eye towards 08. Its as simple as that.

I'd love to see a Cheney/Rumsfeld ticket.

So would the DNC. It'd be a landslide so big it would make Reagan's 1980 victory over Carter look like a photo finish.

It's the weekend and the really far-out Leftie stuff will be up on the Internet for the duration. I love the things that Reuters prints on the weekend pages, there is absolutely no illusion of impartiality. The idea seems to be that people will scan a nasty headline and believe it. Take this dreck from the web site of the Times, for instance. The second stringers get to put up the ultra nutty stuff!

Agreed. Cheney's health problems are a legitimate concern. Rumsfeld has been utterly crucified by the press.
