School officials were not releasing students in an after-school program Wednesday around 4:30 p.m. until a situation on East Durango had cleared.
Police arrested a 39-year-old man from the 1300 block of East Durango, near the Alamodome, after a phone call he made to News 4 WOAI.
He told us about threats he felt were being made to him and his civil rights. He mentioned he had built three bombs, but had dismantled them. He asked what he needed to do to get help, and then proceeded to make a threat to kids on a school bus.
News 4 WOAI called police with the man's information and threats.
Dozens of police officers, the SWAT team and firefighters arrived at his home a short time later and found what they are calling components to make a bomb. They arrested the man, who, they learned, also had four outstanding warrants.
Police say he did not resist arrest, but instead confirmed to them what he had told News 4 only about an hour earlier. Chief Bill McManus told News 4, "He stated he had built some bombs last night, said he already disassembled them, but was in the process of making another." News 4 WOAI will bring more on this developing stories at 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m..
