The Drudge Report is known mostly as a wildly popular news outlet. Drudge lashed out at Gore after Gore's movie, "An Inconvenient Truth," took the Oscar for Best Documentary.
Citing a press release by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, Drudge reports that Gore's Tennessee household uses twenty times as much energy as the average person's home, and that the former vice president's energy consumption has increased since the release of his anti-global warming film. "The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy," the report says. "In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh -- more than 20 times the national average."
Gore shot back at Drudge Monday through an interview with the liberal Web site ThinkProgress:
Responding to Drudge, Gore's office told ThinkProgress:
1) Gore's family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.
2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family's carbon footprint -- a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore's office explains:
What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, to bring their footprint down to zero.
And then there's this comparison Rush Limbaugh made between Gore and President Bush on his radio program yesterday: "Compare Gore's mansion and Bush's modest 4,000 square foot little house on a ranch in Crawford. Who is it that is actually walking the walk here when it comes to conserving energy? It is not Al Gore."

"a concept the right wing fails to understand"
We understand it all too well.
Been busy... ,p.
Has Al given any response... er, should I say spin.. on this?
Carbon offsets are the biggest scam since snake-oil! What they mean to say is that they aren't about to cut back on guzzling electricity and pumping out CO2 into the environment. They are buying $$$ their way out of not having to do a damn thing!
GWB on the other hand walks the talk with is environmentally friendly awesome home.
Oh, I see, we conservatives are just too stupid to understand. What I can understand is a con game when I see it.
Please explain (someone!) what "carbon offsets" are. We hear about them all the time lately, but is this something real or just a scam?
"Hey Buddy, can you spare a Carbon Credit? I really need a smoke..."
P.T. Barnum is laughing from the grave at this feel-guilt fleecing of guilt-ridden Liberals...
Create a fake "Commodity", then get stupid liberals to PAY you for them!!
WHAT A SCAM!!
Or as someone on another thread stated, it's like the old practice of Catholic Dispensation.
Pay a fee to a Priest in The Church Of Global Warming, and continue polluting, free of guilt, without worry of purgatory...
How/where do I buy carbon offsets to sell?
Ah yes, the "it is okay to pollute as long as you are rich enough to pay someone else to clean up your mess" defense. I'm sure Al Gore supports coal plants, refineries and oil drilling sites that use the same philosophy.
"Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family's carbon footprint".
So what exactly does "purchasing carbon offsets" mean? This is all new to me. Who does the purchasing? The poor?

Hmm, did anyone bother to investigage whether and exactly when Gore made these moves (just yesterday??)?
It's a scam.
But it does help rich liberals to feel good.
So in a capitalist sense, they are providing a needed service.
Environmental prozac, as it were.
It's not the size of his foot that's the problem...
A guy on the Howie Carr show called the notion of paying someone else (likely in the Third World) not to produce CO2 "carbon slavery". A hundred people in Honduras get paid not to take the bus so Al can drive an SUV.
Not only is Massa Gore a Carbon Criminal, he's a Carbon Slave Owner.
I suspect that besides being useless, carbon offsets are unaudited. I'll bet dollars to donuts the same 100 Upper West Side carbon snots are taking moral credit for same ten trees some place in Central America, that'll be cut down for cooking fuel in five years anyway.
Seems like that to me too. However, I am not sure what exactly purchasing a carbon offset means. Does that mean as long as I pay an extra "tax" I can still have a carbon foot print of zero regardless of how often I fly a private jet?
let's understand some more...
Wind power is subsidized by you tax dollars.
Truly "green" power is a total waste of water, which may become the world's most precious liquid soon. It also take more energy to produce lots of ethanol - that's why it costs more.
Gore selecting "green" power just means the taxpayers are paying part of his bill.
Halp us, We are stupd . . With profound apologies to those creative brave men and women who held up the original sign in Irak. I guess Conservatives didnt study hard enough. We just dont under sophisticated nuances.
"purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family's carbon footprint -- a concept the right-wing fails to understand."
Think of it as the old concept of Catholic Dispensation for the modern Atheist...
Simply pay a Priest in The Church of Global Warming a small fee, and be freed from the burden of your sinful polluting...
