It started with abortion, and frankly, I have not read the document, nor have most republicans since 2000, when everything began to collapse.
You really have assisted my argument by posting that drivel. We plan to clean that mess back up, after the election.(maybe before,.....hopefully)
But that might be asking for too much too soon, as we have not yet hit bottom.
Ah, another Giuliani campaign slogan!
Not very pithy, though...
And, as I keep mentioning, Newt's Contract for America didn't take time to mention one single word about abortion or gay marriage or gun control. Not one word.
Now how is that possible since it's all these people talk about? There's a segment of the party that has tried to move the party so far to the right that I'm sure we've become unrecognizable to a lot of Republicans, just as the extreme left of the Democrats are unrecognizable to old time Dems.
An interesting choice of words. I was reading Common Tator's post, and persuing the replies on this thread, when that thought ran through my head. "Republicans and conservatives are spiraling out of control, and it won't get better until we hit rock bottom"
2008 will likely be the bottom. At this rate, given the deep divisiveness here, and the angry, anti-Bush unity on the left, 2008 will be a Democratic sweep. A combination of Iraq and border policy has shattered the right, while the left and the center are gaining momentum.
If we're unable to honestly assess the mood of the country, and rally behind a leader acceptable to the majority, we'll lose. As of this thread, it seems that conservativism in general doesn't care about doing either of those things.
I don't know one candidate that runs on that platform especially at the Presidential level. It was an appeasement to special interest groups so they could go away happy and then gets put back in a drawer for four more years. The more I think about it the less happy I am with Rove and his reaching out to the wrong group for votes -- he pandered.
Another Rudyite admits to being opposed to the Republican Party Platform. He calls it "drivel" and "garbage" and admits to wanting liberal Rudy to hijack the party so that the liberals in the party can "clean that mess back up". I've never seen a fifth column troll so openly expose their anti-conservative agenda on this conservative forum. This debate is really drawing the rats out of their filthy holes.
I see you pine for the good ol' days when the Rockefeller Republicans ruled the GOP roost. So what if you were a perpetual minority party? At least you didn't to deal with those crude rubes who thought abortion was wrong and guns are good. Y'all always hated that Reagan taught y'all how to win. You'd rather lose your way.
You suggest revising that document to get rid of the "social crap" and "garbage" according to your definition. I assume therefore you do not support President Bush since he endorses the entire platform, including that "social crap".
