I have seen several people use only the first definition of the word abortionist to tarnish a statement with that word in it.

More than one person has accused Jim of saying that they perform abortions just because one of Rudy's positions was revealed. And of saying that Giuliani performs abortions. Kind of absurd IMO.

Some have wasted several posts on their myopic impression of the definition of the "word."

You even state "Your argument is illogical and spurious; not to mention slanderous, irrational, and 100% false."

Well, Random House doesn't agree with you on that.

From the dictionary:

a·bor·tion·ist

–noun
1. a person who performs or induces abortions, esp. illegally.
2. a person who favors or advocates abortion as a right or choice that all women should have: usually intended as an offensive term.

[Origin: 1870–75, Americanism; abortion + -ist]
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)
Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.

Some of the people that "misunderstood" Jim's use of the word are smart enough to have known what he meant, but just wanted to argue. I wasn't sure of the different uses of the word, so I looked it up. If others (and you) had, I think the message would have been clear.

The term abolitionist comes to mind as example of how Jim used the word abortionist ... some people just like to find fault and be insulted.

It's a second definition in what you posted and that definition is not the one that first springs to anyone's mind. As a matter of fact, that second definition does NOT appear in WEBSTER'S ENCYCLOPEDIC UNABRIDGED DICTIONARY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE published in 1989. I just looked it up.

And no, I am not willing to give the benefit of the doubt to anyone, calling anyone else an abortionist, or a "baby killer", which is also a term flung about here, now.
