Over the years here at FR, I've seen many people say we should let the military do their jobs, ie the ones in charge, and leave the politicians out of it. Now it's different, I guess it just depends on...

You seem to be blinded silly with ideology. Logic 101.

Not following orders is not doing their job. What part of "military" do you not understand? The CIC gets the final word!

Gheeeez!

You're probably not going to get an answer from George. He's no longer with us.

Imagine that...

The story cites "4 or 5 generals/admirals". So...4-5 out of how many hundred?

Too bad we couldn't get a like amount of senators to do the same thing.

I seriously doubt this article is true. We aren't going to war with Iran - we can lob missiles and bombs at them all day, but we don't have the troops to send in, and unlike Libya, Iran would be a lot tougher nut to crack. If you can't put the boots on the ground you can't win a war with a big country (and this coming from an old Air Force guy).

Before anybody says "oh well, you can take out their nuclear facilities", the answer is "yes, we can take out their nuclear facilities", but that's just what they'd love. They would immediately flood the Iraq/Iran border with troops and equipment and then we'd have a huge mess in Iraq.

Iran wants to be a martyr so bad - they've been putting themselves in a position where they can claim the spiritual highground in the Muslim world, and having the US attack them would validate that claim. They would pull the "the US told us to back down, and we didn't" card, which would appeal to a lot of angry young Muslims.

I highly doubt this is true. Nevertheless, if true, then I do not see how the Generals think its better to wait for Iran to attack first.......

Iran is not going to attack us - they want us to attack them instead. Their plan falls apart if they are the aggressor. They want to push forward with their nuclear plans, as a sign of "we should be leading the Muslim world, we are doing this no matter what the US says".

If they attack us, they bring NATO into the picture, which is what they don't want to do, even if it's just getting NATO nations to support us in the UN.

It would validate what Bush has claimed about Iran as well, which is the last thing Iran wants.

The ironic thing is, a war with Iran would certainly spill over into Iraq, which means that Saudi Arabia would step up their support of the Sunnis, which is, again, something that Iran doesn't want.

Also, this defeatist BS is always published on the weekends. Always. They'd never get away with it in the weekday cycle.

If you read the Reuters propaganda headlines on Saturday or Sunday, you'd swear the Muslims had already won and were running the world.

That is the "stupid" option.

Short attention span?

I read your post, and you left out the part about what happens when Iran decides to go from covert to overt support of the Shiites in Iraq? I firmly believe Iran has been covertly supplying the Shiites for decades, and I believe they stepped it up in the aftermath of our invasion - especially in regards to munitions and training they are providing those who are killing our troops.

A "formal" war with the US opens up the very real possibility of Iranians flooding the border - we don't even have control of all the Iraq/Iran border (I don't count cameras or drones as border control, just as I don't count Rick Perry's webcams on the US/Mexico border as some kind of border control).

according to highly placed defence and intelligence sources.
-----
It is highly likely that the sources are in bed with the Generals who feel this way and wouldn't vocalize it unless they felt they were in safe company. This borders on mutiny and they are the problem, not the solution and they are the very ones who should be fired. a large block of the pentagon are still in the cold war mode and are unable to adapt to ever changing tactical and strategic realities in the world. There is little thinking outside the box and a rigid chain of command that stifles creative thinking and chance taking.

Just as 1/2 of the UN floors wouldn't be missed if they disappeared, 1/2 of the pentagon wouldn't be missed either. Let double the ground forces, reorganize the brass and get rid of those who can not adapt, the very ones who probably are responsible for all the pentagon leaks.

Ok, now let me make a headline...let's see now, how about?

US generals threaten mass exodus if Democrats capture presidency.

Sorry but I view this guy like Hitler. He has been telling us exactly what he is going to do.

BTW, I would not count on NATO. The Eurotrash have no back bone because their chicken $hit of the Muslims that are slowly taking over.

Well, it could be the general in charge of logistics...getting the equipment to the battlefield...I'm sure that's a HUGE pain to orchestrate.

I'm sure there are a lot of lowbie generals in obscure places that want to resign because their particular job sucks.

But am guessing it's the arm chair generals like Sharpton, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy...that are at the heart of this article...and boy, I wish they would resign. ^^
