For all intents and purposes the 2nd Amendment today is about hunting weapons. Not sure when it happened, but firearms of the type we could actually use to overthrow our government are no longer legal in a practical sense unless you're very rich.

You don't need a single weapon that is capable of "overthrowing the government". You don't need F-16's to defeat an out-of-control American tyrant. You simply need enough people with enough competent firearms that can defeat an opposing force equipped with similar weaponry. (Heck, even with slightly less-modern weapons, individuals can "find" the modern variants simply by killing an opponent and taking his.)
Japan's leaders were terrified of the idea of invading America (although they were considering the possibility). They correctly foresaw "a sniper rifle behind every blade of grass".
Never underestimate the power of 10,000,000 practiced shooters who can never be massed in a single location.

Just a thought: a simple bolt-action Enfield MkIII 2a in .308 is more than sufficient for term limits enforcement. You can bust milk jugs at 400 yards even with the crappy stock iron sights. All it takes is a little practice.

It doesn't necessarily take a very good weapon to capture something better.
