Agree, Hildy. She has a bright comedic mind, also. She doesn't seem to be an 'in your face' homosexual. Refreshing in today's environment.

Haven't watched the Academy Awards since 1971 when George C. Scott won best actor for "Patton" and turned down the award, proclaiming that the event had become "A parade of meat".

I guess I haven't missed much since.

Jack.

""DeGeneres has proved her talent on the awards show circuit before, most notably when hosting the Emmys that followed the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

"We're told to go on living our lives as usual, because to do otherwise is to let the terrorists win, and really, what would upset the Taliban more than a gay woman wearing a suit in front of a room full of Jews?" she said.""

There is more then one way to fight jihad. Ellen will probably be the only watchable element of the broadcast.

I am not going to watch a bunch of self absorbed, liberal loons, spoiled rotten, pieces of $hit lecture me about global warming and trash the country that has made them successful. No way in hell..

Awwww, looks bad for the Oscars, that orgy of self-congratulation nobody watches!

Maybe they'll be reduced to just compiling lists of winners and running them in the daily paper - well, maybe not. No tears shed by me.

I haven't watched ANY awards show in thirty years, and I certainly won't be giving the Oscars any time. Undoubtedly all the people who choose the winners get together beforehand and decide the winners on the basis of political correctness. To wit which movie or role best promotes the major tenets of liberalism. The Grammys proved that with the selection of the talentless Ditzy Clucks, and I'm willing to bet Al Gore will get one for docs. It's in the bag.

At least this year Eastwood is nominated (Best Producer and Director, I think). Al Gore's speech would be kind of fascinating in the watching-a-car-accident kind of way...

SevenofNine: Did you ever see the pictures of the emperors on Roman coins? Some of them wer ugly looking dudes lol! The Romans showed people as they really were you got to admire a people that had that kind of honesty lol!

I agree. She will be the ONLY person who DOESN'T make a political comment or offend someone.

Actually, I have noticed that since she quit making a big deal about her lifestyle, she is actually a very pleasant person. It's a shame that someone got her to go public. Had she kept her sexual orientation to herself, she still would probably have a very large fan base.

"Dat Bush sure is stupid."

Whoopi Goldberg
74th Academy Awards

That's why I'm here tonight. Because I love bush. But someone's giving bush a bad name. Someone has tarnished name of `bush.' Someone has waged war, someone has deliberately misled the country, someone has attempted to amend the constitution, all in the name of bush. The bush I know and cherish would never do such things. My bush is smarter than that. And if my bush is smarter than that, you can understand just how dumb I think that other bush is. And anyone who would wave to Stevie Wonder is not fully there. I will do whatever it takes to restore bush to its rightful place and that ain't in the White House. Vote your heart and mind and keep bush where it belongs."

Whoopie Goldberg, in 2004 - while drunk at a Kerry fundraiser, waving a bottle of wine.

"Babe: Pig in the City. Wasn't that the Linda Tripp Story?" - Whoopie Goldberg while she was hosting the 1999 Academy Awards.

I love my life." - Julia Roberts, upon opening the Best Actor envelope and seeing the winner was friend Denzel Washington. Roberts was widely criticized for the comment, which was perceived as self-centered and an effort to make the moment "about her" rather than the winner.

“Roman Polanski,” - the announcement of Best Director by the Hollywood community in 2003. Polanski could not accept the award in person. He fled the country back in the 1970's because he raped a child.

We like non-fiction because we live in fictitious times. We live in a time where fictitious election results give us a fictitious president. We are now fighting a war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fiction of duct tape or the fictitious 'Orange Alerts,' we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you. And, whenever you've got the Pope and the Dixie Chicks against you, your time is up.”

Michael Moore accepting his Oscar.

One of the grocery stores in our town is in the same complex as the 3-screen cinema. For all of February, they were handing out movie passes every time we spent $10 on groceries. The passes were good up until 2/16. There wasn't one film we wanted to see, even with a free pass.

The Oscars are the epitome of calling good, evil, and evil good on so many levels that my head aches to think about it.

Which movies are you reffering to? Gladiator? Schindler's List? A Beautiful Mind?

I'm REALLY thinking, this years nomination will go to the DIXIE CHICKS. For best political slam on BUSH.

But best picture will go to "That global Hoax thingie" with ALGORE getting best actor and Rock Star.
