Reid: Iraq war 'worst foreign policy mistake' in U.S. history

After months of heated rhetoric slamming President Bush's Iraq policy, the Senate's top Democrat moved into new terrain by declaring the Iraq war a worse blunder than Vietnam.

...

White House spokesman Tony Snow told CNN he disagrees with Reid's characterization.

"Yeah, the war is tough. But the solution is not to get out. It is to provide the kinds of resources and reinforcements our forces need to get the job done, and at the same time say to the Iraqis, 'You guys gotta step up.'"

Great opportunity here to reclaim the rhetoric of Vietnam -- by giving it to them where it belongs:

The Vietman War was lost in 1975 by a Democrat U.S. Congress that voted for defeat. It's all yours for the takin', Harry baby, all yours.

The worst foreign policy mistake' in U.S. history occured on Jimmy Carter's watch and it was not because of any action he took, but rather because of his inaction.

We are paying for it now.

Dear SEN Reid -

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine. He flies for the Army. A guy he went to flight school with lost his life today doing what the Army trained him to do.

I can't help but think that as you sit in DC and hold forth on the course of history good men & women are dying.

You have the nerve to call the work of these heroes the worst foreign policy mistake in US History. You forget about Carter allowing Iran, the people currently arming the bad guys, to take our people hostage and doing nothing in response. The botched rescue mission - a mission that got more good people killed - was a weak, face-saving effort.

You seem to forget when Bill Clinton passed on taking OBL, the stage was set for 3,000 people to be killed on 9-11-01.

You seem to forget about the bombing of the USS Cole and the lack of response that emboldened our enemy. Ditto for the attacks on the US Embassy.

SEN Reid, since you are clearly out of touch with reality please do the right thing and leave the Senate tomorrow. There are plenty of facilities in the DC area where you can get the treatment that you so clearly need.

Phrased the way I did, you are correct.

The true issue is, how to get the facts to the majority of Americans before the left can taint reality.

WH is pathetic.

Reid and his fellow enemies within ought to be arrested and jailed by the Administration, not lamely verbally responded to.

reid needs to look at the bible, (imperialist) muslim history, and how/why Israel has been a problem since day one.

an awareness should reshape his strong opinion

This is probably a new ploy by those so-called patriotic members of the Democrat party by using the useful idiot media to portray this administration as being evil and taking this country into a direction of attacking innocent countries for no other reason than to steel their oil.

The next phase of these people will be to portray all republican and conservative candidates for president as being the horrible standard bearers of evil.

You know: Democrats-Angelic and Good, Conservatives-Demonic and Evil.

This strategy seems to have be worked for them in the mid-terms, so why not use it again in the presidential election!?

If Reid was pulling this crap in ww2 the usa would have been nuked. The germans were on the fast track to a nuke until england sent in a team to sweden? to knock out the hard water plant. We (the usa) knocked out Pennemunda. The USA had a focus. I blame this partially on Bush. He should be holding weekly news conferences next to Ann Coulter.

"The real question is, are there enough Americans with significant intelligence that see the empty rhetoric for what it is."

The real question is "Has Diversity politics so affected our Citizens that the majority no longer believe in Citizenship and Nationhood?"

Iran engaged in an Act of War in 1979 with the Embassy attack. Also, with the Beirut Bombings of our Marines. And, even today, calling for our destruction is an Act of War.
Iraq was a rogue that was not being controlled. War was voted by Congress, many who now oppose it because of the $$$billions.

Let's be clear. The democrats want the WAR $$$billions to build new government programs, hire more government employees, allow then to unionize and then take those $$$ in campaign contributions. IOW, rob the taxpayers, pay a bureaucrats and take a % of his "wages" for campaign money.

That is what this is now about.

Yes. We should have denazified Iran first (preceded by invasion and occupation), then went into Iraq.

The worst foreign policy mistake in history was putting Harry Reid in charge of foreign policy.

"Reid wouldn't know how to fight his way through a wet paper bag. But he knows a lot about Viet Nam and Iraq and how they could be similar. Just ask him.
His similarity of the two conflicts is that he believes in retreat and defeat rather than victory."

Is Reid French?
