Giuliani's problem with the religious [large graphics]

Posted on 02/18/2007 4:12:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson

I don't know about you, but I doubt the Christian conservatives throughout the red state farm belt and especially down in the South are going to cotton to a liberal New York Yankee coming down to try to clean up crime by taking their guns and bringing abortion and gay unions (gay marriage) into their families, schools and churches.

Rudy is in for a rude awakening down South. "What we have here is a failure to communicate" comes to mind.

"Rudy is in for a rude awakening down South. "What we have here is a failure to communicate" comes to mind."

You may be the one in line for a rude awakening. Southerners are the MOST patriotic of all Americans, have traditionally joined the military in disproportionately large numbers, and can appreciate the difference between a man committed to fight the terrorists while giving no quarter versus someone whose credentials on that account are more questionable.

You may have noticed at judicial hearings for nominees, that the Senators from the nominee's State, sits with and present the nominee, saying complimentary thing about the nominee.

Giuliani was commenting on a New Yorker. He said she was honest. Any evidence that she isn't? A good lawyer, intelligent? Pretty obvious on its face.

Show me where he said he would agree with her way of thinking on issues. Or would have nominated her if it was up to him.

And see: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1787296/posts?page=93#70

I know that the de rigeur opinion on FR is that all Democracts are supposed to be regarded as demonic possesed evildoers and saying anything nice about one is treasonous. I don't consider half the population of the US as evil, just often wrong.

You mean you're surprised I'm rather disappointed that the rules aren't being enforced with regard to Spamming of the Rudy threads. That Rudy supporters have been told they should wear identifying arm bands. That Rudy supporters are called the most malicious, sexist names that I'm embarrassed to re-rost them here.

I live in the south, and everyone I talked to once they know of his stance on guns, gays, and abortion is looking to support another candidate. He is a loser rino.

Giuliani was commenting on a New Yorker.

There ya have it.

We're not talking about half the population here, we're talking about a leftist Justice here who considers the Constitution of this great nation 'frozen in time', which is why she supports international law.

And rudy speaks highly of her.

Hey, if rudy's your choice he's your choice, not mine.

I happen to be one of those Southerners you refer to. Rudy has some splainin' to do down here when it comes to 2A rights and abortion. Hope he has his talking points in order. He'll need to.

Keep twisting facts to fit your delusions. In this analogy, clinton is clinton (doesn't matter which is which--one for the price of two, to turn the turn-of-phrase) , Giuliani is bush41, and your 3rd party choice--or staying home--is your Perot

In the end, the only thing anyone truly controls in our elections is his own vote. Stop blaming everyone else for the consequences--the deaths--that flow from YOUR vote. No one else pulls the lever for you.

You will have a choice. Do anything but vote for the R and you help elect the D, in this case hillary clinton, the person who WILL kill babies, WILL kill our culture, WILL kill our country, WILL kill our constitution.

These are the plain facts. I can think of very little more immoral than helping to elect hillary clinton without first facing all the consequences of your vote squarely and completely.

If you want to see a parody, have the Republicans nominate someone that you find worthy.

The election will be a parody of a real contest with the Democrats winning with hardly trying.

Then you will feels right at home- on the outside- continuing on your quixotic journey to an America that will never be while the Democrats get the opportunity to screw up even worse the America and the World that is real.

You know, I've taken all the condescending and patronizing shit I'm gonna take from you. You don't like my answers, I don't give a good GD. If you don't want that creature to win, then push the GOP to present a better candidate than liberal gun grabbing, pro illegal alien, pro gay rights, pro abortion rudy. I've chosen my candidate, a conservative. If all you have to offer as the alternative to hillary being rudy, one having testosterone and the other having estrogen, you decide which has which, then you don't have anything to offer.

By God I will stay home before I vote for either of them. End of subject.

Many Rudy supporters have their undies in a bunch too because Jim Robinson has come out against Rudy and they're not diggin' that--they won't admit it though.

Definitely. Some of the Rudy promoters have grown accustomed to defending White House and/or GOP screwups by ordering their opposition off this site. That rhetorical device is now off the table, and they must defend their views based purely on the merits.

And given the fact that they're essentially arguing in favor of liberalism, defending their view on the merits is a virtual impossibility.

So the whole threat of Rudy's stated personal views on these issues is WAYYYY overblown.

How can you say that? Those words came right out of his mouth. How could it be any clearer? His "own stated personal views" are what makes his character, and his "personal views" are why he's going to lose this election, because they are either immoral, unconstitutional, or both!

Rudy will appoint conservatives who won't. Or he'll be a one-termer, and I guarantee you that he is nothing if not a smart cookie.

THIS kind of thinking is why America has had to chose the "lesser of two evils" in the last few elections. When you have to hold something over their head to get them to do the right thing, you need to back up and take another look at that person. IF Rudy was a man of his word, you wouldn't have to say "or he'll be a one-termer." You think that will keep Rudy in check, but it won't. What if it were during a second term for Rudy when the opportunity to appoint a Judge came up, and you didn't have that to hold over his head? He's already proved that he can't be trusted, and this is one of his minor problems.

IF the gun grabbers in Congress decided to ban guns, Rudy would sign it in a minute, because he's a gun grabber himself. Without guns, there is NO way that Americans can defend themselves against our government or against gangs/terrorists, should the need ever arise.

The future for generations to come depends on our making the right decisions now, and that's too important than to gamble on someone doing the right thing!

Not over reaction at all. I held my tongue in check as long as I could.

In three post to me you insinuated or right out said, I was a sinner if I didn't vote for rudy.

post # 776: If you have, can you tell me why it is not infinitely more sinful to help elect hillary clinton, which is what you would be doing if you vote 3rd party or stay home?

You then moved on to suggest I was either too stupid or too ignorant to follow a conversation.

post # 791: If this argument is too difficult to follow in the abstract, recall Perot.

That was your second shot across my bow, and still I let it slide.

You continued to insult me by calling me delusional.

post # 829: Keep twisting facts to fit your delusions.

That's it, that's enough. I don't have to take that crap from you because you appear to be obsessed that hillary will become president. She's never going to be president.

You don't like my responses to you because I refuse to be beaten over the head until I change my mind and fall into line with the rudy sycophants who believe that he will be our savior from the hildabeast. What you fail to understand is, he's nearly as bad as she is imo. The lesser of two evils? I refuse to vote lesser of two evils. He will be our downfall if he's nominated.

I will stay home if those are my two choices. I will not put my soul in jeopardy to elect rudy as president.

If 30-40% vote in the primaries for someone else because they would NEVER vote for Rudy in the general, he could still get the nomination and have zero chance in the general.

I don't think that is a likely scenario. Pubs tend to coalesce around one candidate. Just like DemonRATs.

Dear Torie,

"Making the case that Rudy has been seemlessly consistent on this issue is going to be a tough one; just ask Mitt. :)"

It's much more damaging for Mr. Giuliani, though.

Part of his schtick is that he's the forthright guy who is hard as a rock, and doesn't care if you agree with him or not - he's going to do what he thinks is right, no matter what. He's brave, he's resolute, he's not a typical politician. He'll prosecute the war on terror, no matter what. It doesn't matter that he doesn't have any experience with the military. It doesn't matter all the mistakes and errors he made for New York City prior to Sept 11. It doesn't matter that he was buddies with, and pushed as Secretary of Homeland Defense, a common thug and criminal. He's tough as nails; he won't relent, he'll get the job done because he doesn't waver.

That's his gimmick.

But now, with all the hemming and hawing, all the trimming and wavering, all the evading and avoiding on abortion, homosexual rights, and guns, he appears to be no different from Mr. Romney, or Mr. McCain, or any of the other politicians who will do or say whatever they need to do or say to get elected.

It removes most of the justification for voting for him.

The Rats tend to crossover in the primaries every chance the get if it will have no effect on their team. You may wish to do a little thinking on that before you say it can't happen.
