"If this resolution passes the House and the Senate, the president could veto it, but then he wouldn't have any money," Murtha noted. "What we're trying to do is make sure people understand we're supporting the troops, we're protecting the troops, but on the other hand, we're going to stop this surge.
"The other thing we're doing is saying, no permanent bases," Murtha said.
"He did not elaborate but went on to talk about services enjoyed by U.S. troops in Iraq but denied to many Iraqis."
"Let's take, for instance, Saddam Hussein's palace - that's where our troops are living," Murtha said.

What don't these a$$wipes understand about our need to seed the islamic middle east with democracy?
How can anyone consider wasting away our investment in stabilizing the world before it is too late?
Murtha uses 3rd grade arguments to undermine our future, our resolve, and our troops.
Unions. That explains a lot. Only unions would srgue that a man should work 9 months and then take a year to rest.
If I have the figure wrong, I apologize. But I think I read that if she got the jet she wanted and her demands were granted, each trip would cost in the neighborhood of three hundred thousand dollars. That would buy a lot of body armor and a few humvees. And imagine how many trips she would make over a period of two years! Ten trips would cost 3 million dollars, 20 trips would be 6 million dollars, and 40 trips would be 12 million dollars. She would use all this money to transport her scrawny ass, and still allow the issue of body armor and humvees to be used to bash President Bush.
Murtha needs st have a taste of living in the palace of a dictator that he him self is becoming. Saddam's palace was not a great place to live. It was cold and noisy living with hundreds of guys living in temp quarters in the hall ways, and barracks in the great rooms. The bathrooms were gross and non-potable running water if it did run. Bathroom facilities so bad that a port-a-let in 140 degree weather was preferable to them. the military had special trailers built to support the 3000 people working out of the presidential palace. If you ever ate at dining hall it was the worst food in Iraq for it could not support the amount of food it served (plastic and frozen food). Many other "palaces" are now Iraqi government and coalition military command posts some better some worse than the palace. Many of the Iraqis live better than the soldiers living in 2 man room, 8 man trailer with thin walls, no overhead cover and sandbags to protect from mortar and rocket shrapnel. it has gotten better in the three years since I left but a lot has not change and Murtha needs to stuff his rhetoric down his pie hole and have is dictatorial butt living there and try to do that mission.
Murtha should be swinging from a rope.
Is most of PA owned by the Unions? Sorry, not familiar with PA. Sounds too much like MA. Why not try to re-call the election? Can it be done? That would get the attention of Congress & MSM. If enough people within the states start re-calling their so call Reps... than, and only than will Congress & Senate get their attention. Otherwise.. Unions & MSM rules and will always win.
Who ARE these people?
Funny, Murtha couldn't state the obvious when Hussein was living in a NUMBER of palaces, moving every 24 hours, using decoys that looked like him and the Iraqi's were being murdered at his Saddam's whim---including his sons-in-law.
Of course our troops have stuff the locals don't. The locals can have all they can work for when they stop the insurgency- turn on the radicals within their midst - stop the border crossing of radicals from other countries who keep the terrorist fires burning- etc.
Then our troops will come hime. I don't believe we will ever get the gratitude we deserve for stopping Saddam. Look at France. This generation has no idea what language they would be speaking in France if we hadn't stopped Hitler.
Ungrateful is the major word to describe the world in general. One the one hand, we get yelled at for not contributing ENOUGH to poorer parts of the world, and on the other hand we get yelled at for going in a stopping Saddam and like dictators who are destroying their citizens. I give up.
You are correct. The 757 would have cost cost 300k per trip.
In retrospect, maybe she wouldn't be so mean if shes'd have gotten it... NAH
This guy doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground when it comes to training troops or providing for them. He needs to go away...permanently.
Thanks for your service.
Is there any way Murtha can be stripped of all of his medals (if any)???
That looks like my son's royal bedroom in Iraq.
Last fall, just a few days after the election I was driving thru southwestern PA (Murtha's district) on I-70. Huge roadside billboard with a picture of Murtha in his Marine uniform ... with the caption in large block letters ... 'A Profile In Courage'! Obviously his constituents bought into it ... in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
