Interviewing anti-war Senator Russ Feingold this morning, Good Morning America weekend co-host Bill Weir offered his interpretation of the mid-term election results and virtually taunted Democrats for being insufficiently aggressive in confronting President Bush:
"Do you hold your party responsible, not only for the authorization, but for the seeming inability to muster a unified front to fight the president on this, to get what you want, and apparently what the American people wanted with the mid-term elections, and end the war?"View video here.
Feingold, in full pass-the-buck mode: "This is George Bush's war without a doubt."He continued: "Those Democrats who voted for it made a mistake, and many of them have said they shouldn't have done it [nice little Hillary jab, Russ], but the key now is, are the Democrats going to continue this momentum? Having this special session Saturday is the way to show that we're serious. But it has to be followed by very aggressive action to actually end the war."

"If you say the war is wrong and bad, and you cannot justify the use of US forces in combat over there, WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?"
Non-binding resolutions are for cowards, Russ why don't you and your friends cut off funding for our military - That would be serious.
1. I liked Bill Weir better when he was doing sports for KABC in Los Angeles.
2. Why doesn't Congress shut down the war now? I'll tell you why. Because they know that if they do, and we get attacked afterwards, a good number of the people who voted for it can basically kiss their phony-baloney jobs goodbye.
I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired of Democrats and the DBM's revisionist history about why the GOP lost the majority in the mid-term elections.
The GOP lost, not because of the war, but because of the scandals (Foley, Cunningham and the media's trumped-up one about DeLay) and their refusal to do something about the border and their insatiable spending. But I guess if we hear that we lost because of the war in Iraq often enough, the sheeple will believe it to be true.
Too bad the GOP never fights back as a whole or has talking points to put lying traitorous democrats in their place. They'd rather be steam rolled or hide from their shadows.
Because, when we deserted our obligations to the world in 1975, interest rates were 21% in five years;..we enjoy 6% interest rates presently because the world sees us as committed to a problem threatening all of us. We bail..we pay.
If this was a bar, Congress is doing the equavalent of buying the girl they want to hit on a drink. If the American people, i.e. the girl, are basically open to this resolution, they'll be open to more "drinks" later on. At some point, Congress will make their move. For now, they're just loosening up the target.
There... fixed it.
Look at the performance of the companies in the AMEX defense index - 12 of 14 at record highs. Then look at the Dow reaching new levels on narrow breadth and a couple of decent performers. We are on a war economy and the democrats CANNOT change that without driving the country into a recession.
Now if they could figure a way to do that without being held responsible, I've no doubt they would, but they seem to be wary that even the voters might see what they've done.
They have the same problem if they should win in '08. They must continue the war, or the economy tanks on their watch.

That pretty much sums up the dem agenda across the board.
They want to raise taxes but don't have the cajones to vote for it. So they've decided to hunker down until 2010, wait for the Bush tax cuts to expire, and disclaim responsibility for the tax hikes.
They desperately want to raise taxes for Social Security but can't figure out how to get Republican cover, so they do nothing.
They want to cut and run in Iraq but still blame Bush for the consequences.
Pathetic.
I am sure (NOT) that this elicited to followup question: "And why, Senator Feingold, do you think the Americans cutting and running would bring an end to the war?"
Mz. Nancy was quoted yesterday as saying that the dem agenda was to end the fighting and bring the troops home. Wrong. That's Bush's agenda. But the only way to end the fighting is to win first.
is this a""war"" or spreading democracy having to fight foreign intermeddlers while nurturing a young democracy?
Is fighting intermeddling Iranian /Syrians on Iraqi soil the real ""war""?
If so, then then it necessary but it has to be reframed as spreading , protecting and nurturing democracy ....in some place that has never seen nor heard of it. Also, the "war" portion, ""war"" it has to be run as a war.
Funny how they want to raise taxes on the "rich" in America, but tacked a huge tax break bill for businesses onto the "nonbinding resolution" to help with the minimum wage issue.
I couldn't agree more and will add that they also lost because they can't seem to muster the ability to get ahead of all the negative press. They don't seem to understand the value of PR and how important it is for them to be able to immediately react to their opposition with confidence and force.
Which begs the question, "Are our GOP elected reps REALLY THIS INCOMPETANT?"
