Giuliani criticizes Gore for not going far enough on Global Warming (by not offering solutions)
Pajamas Media ^ | February 13, 2007 | Bill Bradley

Pajamas Media’s Bill Bradley has been following Rudy Giuliani on the hustings in California. (Bill will be similarly covering John McCain and Hillary Clinton on their trips to the Golden State in coming weeks).

Here, at a press conference in the Silicon Valley, Giuliani responds to a press question about Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth and discusses the global warming issue in general.

Watching him speak in that tape, he put more emphasis on the natural causes.

You put the bold highlights on what you wanted emphasized, not Giuliani's emphasis.

Please show where he said that natural causes were a greater factor than human causes. I'm waiting.

Watch him speak, he mentions natural causes in a slow manner first, then more quickly mentions the scientists. My read is more emphasis on natural causes, and certianly not total acceptance of human influence as a cause, unlike Gore whom you unfairly claimed Rudy was trying to move to the left of on the issue.

Watch him speak

I don't have sound on my computer. Post a transcript - you are claiming what he has said here. It shouldn't be too hard to find a passage where he says most warming is from natural causes.

Just out of curiousity, do you think this "Global Warming" could be a natural cycle that may have been repeated several times or even hundreds of times or even thousands of times in geologic history? Hard to know since the first mercury thermometer wasn't invented until 1714 by Gabriel Fahrenheit. WOW! we have been accurately measuring temperature for 293 years. That is a long long long time in geologic history! Historic accounts provided by some climatologists seem to suggest that there are recurring changes in climate. Oh well, just a little ditty.

That figures, you did not watch the clip, and you inferred what you wanted. All I needed to know.

I wasn't around for the Gettysburg Address. Doesn't change the meaning of Lincoln's words that I have to read a transcript.

It's telling that you refuse to post a section of the transcript where Rudy says the warming is mainly caused by natural factors. C'mon, it shouldn't be that hard.

Egypt

We could create high altitude clouds from the warm Atlantic seawater near the equator. The clouds have to be high to clear the many North African mountain ranges and make a good distance before raining out. We could make the climate much cooler and wetter turning all of North Africa into prime real estate. It would have many unintended consequences though, some good some bad.

Did Rudy say that it was really about fighting pollution in a logical , science based way. That`s not ALGORE and the crazies.

I think global warming is just one cycle in a planet wide history of climate variations. It has been coldern and warmer many times throughout history. The current climate has been warming since the last ice age for 15,000 years ago when NYC was under 500 feet of ice.

Where I am not convinced is that human activity is the primary or major cause of a supposed recent warming trend. Nor am I convinced that scientists can measure with any certainty the future of earth's climate.

Most all leftists don't want to mention the obvious solution to increased CO2 in the atmosphere. With China and India building coal fired plants, their contribution to the ratio of CO2 in the atmosphere will obviously increase.

The solution is nuclear plants - standardized plants like those in France. (Blind Pigs finding truffles once in a while)

Oh, look at this, Rudy is a backer of nuclear plants. Hardly another liberal position.

Rudy also specifically mentioned clean coal in this speech as an option. Not a favorite of the left.

He is pointing out that if you have a problem, leadership requires trying to solve the problem. algore's solution might be to put us back in the stone age.

This is not the role of government.

Lose the lobbyists, lose any business tax, and deregulate, then you'll see faster results. Large corporations don't take the same level of risks that smaller companies do. But the larger companies can afford to keep up with regulations. Oh no, my Libertarian side is showing.... and I don't think Rudy Giuliani has one. But there's still a year and a half to go.

He did not say that "he" thinks that global warming is human-induced -- he said that he only knows what is being reported as to the scientific "consensus" on the matter.

As a politician and not a scientist, he would be trapping himself if he went further than that.

Senator Inhofe from Oklahoma goes much further than that - not only does he take the fight right back to the globaloney crowd, but relishes the fight. We need more pubbies willing to do that. Rudy ain't one of them that I can see.
