Pajamas Media’s Bill Bradley has been following Rudy Giuliani on the hustings in California. (Bill will be similarly covering John McCain and Hillary Clinton on their trips to the Golden State in coming weeks).
Here, at a press conference in the Silicon Valley, Giuliani responds to a press question about Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth and discusses the global warming issue in general.

I agree but politicians will always try and make the best of the situations at hand. It has gone far beyond the political and scientific debate into the business world which will exploit and profit from it.....and they are the big donors as well....Dumb like a fox.....
Well, that shows just how interested Rudy is in leadership on the issues, then. At the end of the day, he's just another politician.

Very well put! We know that Rudy is just pandering. They are all doing it, nothing new here. Listening to Rudy talk, I don't know where he stands on anything! His answer to abortion was that he would appoint judges who did not like it, I think. His answer to farmers was that he is no expert but he will listen and understands that they need cheap labor, I Think.
As to global warming, any scientist who does not go along with the "concensus" is denounced or ignored. Geez, our lifetime is just a blip in geologic history. The global warming frenzy is just a knee-jerk reaction to an unpredictable phenomenon. Shucks, I heard a climatologist from NC state that during the Roman conquest of Great Britian, they grew grapes in England but it is too cold now.
Rudy is just a politician, as long as he can refuse to take a stand on anything and get by with it, he will continue to do so.
I'm sure there was quite a bit of laughter when US Representative Abraham Lincoln, fresh from his senate defeat to Stephen Douglas, ran for president too.
This is very different to the characterization in the previous FR post.
Giuliani's response on this was intelligent and he clearly did not blindly accept the liberal version of global warming as 100% man made.
Here is the problem. He still gave solid acceptance to a signficant human-caused factor. And he attacked Al Gore for not offering solutions.
The problem is, Gore DID offer a solution (or at least what he thinks is a solution) - namely, Kyoto. So now this gives Gore a chance to zing Rudy right back and say, since you believe in Global Warming, why are you NOT backing Kyoto?
Dumb, dumb, dumb. If this is a preview of coming attractions of Rudy's leadership, no thanks.
He attacked the movie for not offering solutions. Watch the tape.
You don't demand solutions for a problem that doesn't exist.
Rudy made it clear he was not in Gore's camp that believes global warming is entirely caused by human activity. He also made it clear that regardless of global warming, dealing with pollution and seeking to curtail pollution with sensible means is always a worthy goal. He also amde it clear he would be interested in specific solutions and their implications.
You should watch the tape again instead of mischaracterizing what he said.

I want a presidental candidate who will stand up to the globaloney crowd and tell them they are full of hot air. And explain to the American people that this bunch will not be happy until our economy is sandbagged.
I don't want a pubbie who joins the liberal stampede. Rudy said it quite clearly - he believes in global warming. He puts credence in scientists. And those scientists "believe that there's significant human cause."
I'll take Inhofe on this one. Not a jello-spined politician with his finger up in the air.
Please refer to post #29 - a transcript of Rudy's comments - and tell me how the bolded comments, when put together, show Rudy is NOT now a firm believer in human-caused global warming.
Rudy doesn't know where he stands on anything! Its just babble. As long as he can straddle an issue without making a stand he will continue to do so.
He knows exactly where he stands on one issue. He wants to be president. Power-hungry politicians without a moral compass are not the right choice for the GOP nomination.
One time there was a weather map of the Mediterranean showing frequency of thunderstorms over a good amount of time. There was clear air over the Pyramids of Egypt, which is to say it looks like Egypt hasn't had rain since they built he Pyramids. If you can create continuous cloud cover there, you can do that.
I believe in global warming just like Rudy. We both think it's primarily natural causes, and the jury is still out on what is the human impact on the global climate.

I think the last one said that...uh...ummm...fir-fir-first of all there's definitely global warming as far as I can tell. I guess the big question has always been how much is it, how much of it is happening because of just natural climate changes and progressions and how much is happening because of human intervention - carbon in particular - and the overwhelming majority of the scientists believe that there's significant human cause that's making it more difficult, making it worse.
Rudy did NOT say that it was mostly from natural causes. He put emphasis instead on SIGNFICANT HUMAN CAUSE.
And then demanded that Al Gore provide solutions. You don't demand solutions if you think the problem is not signficant.
You cannot spin this one away as no matter how hard you try.
Actually you put the emphasis on the text.
Now you quibble. He did NOT say that it was primarily natural. He instead mentioned signficant human impact.
