Obama told a campaign trail crowd in Iowa on Sunday that the nations Iraq war dead were lives wasted but immediately claimed a slip of the tongue. We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted, Obama said on Iraq. I was actually upset with myself when I said that, because I never use that term, he later told the Des Moines Register. Their sacrifices are never wasted . . . What I meant to say was those sacrifices have not been honored by the same attention to strategy, diplomacy and honesty on the part of civilian leadership that would give them a clear mission. When asked about the remark during an appearance Monday in Nashua, he told reporters he meant to criticize civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military. Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken, Obama said. Stopping short of a full apology, Obama said, It is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any of them felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that theyd shown. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerrys decision to not enter the 2008 race was blamed in part on a bipartisan backlash from his remark that people who did poorly in school would end up stuck in Iraq. He later claimed his remark was misinterpreted and said he was sorry if anyone was offended.

One slip of the tongue........reminds me of a joke. Oh wait this was a joke too, right?
Obama will find he hit a "Kerry" moment that no explanations will ever undo.
Be careful. You're starting to think for yourself.
I hate when that happens. I remember during my first marriage when I wanted my exwife to pass the salt. I said "You GD b----, you've destroyed my life" when all I wanted was the salt. I hate it when that happens.
"If he truly believes that the campaign in Iraq is wrong and harmful to the US, then "wasted" would be the correct term in the sense that they died for no good reason (in Obama's opinion) and deserved better."
Valid point, my friend. This needs broadcasting.
"They (the Dems that oppose)all are saying the "wasted" word
It is usually said, "They (our troops) have died for nothing." Think of that when they claim to want them all to come home."
I wonder what the number of Democratic voters would be among the 3,000 soldiers who have died? Every soldier that dies over there improves their odds.
That photo of Obama-Lincoln isn't funny. Lincoln was a respectable Republican.
Well then you'll love McCain. He likes stripping people of thier rights too!
Q for Senator Obama:
Wouldn't prematurely withdrawing from Iraq as you propose turn our soldiers' sacrifices into waste?
These slips are a window into Obama's true feelings.
