Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) believes it is his right as a Muslim to be sworn into Congress with the Quran. But apparently, the freshman lawmaker doesnt believe its Rep. Tom Tancredos (R-Colo.) right to smoke a cigar in his congressional office.
Ellisons office called the Capitol Hill Police on Tancredo last Wednesday night as Tancredo was in his office smoking a cigar. The lawmakers have neighboring offices on the first floor of the Longworth House Office Building.
Tancredo was still stunned a day later. Its very bizarre, said Tancredo, who has never met Ellison. Seemed to me not a good way to say hello.
And lets face it. Calling the cops on a colleague takes the cake for the nerviest behavior so far among members of this years freshman class of Congress.
This is how it all went down. On Wednesday evening, around 6 p.m., Tancredo was preparing for his trip to Mississippi. And as he so often does, he was unwinding with a cigar.
Soon enough, however, a police officer walked in to check on the smoke. The officer told Tancredo that the officer came because he was required to do so and not because the officer wanted to. The officer had already told Ellison that Tancredo was permitted to smoke in his office. The visit was more a formality.
Tancredo said he would not stop smoking in his office. Heck, no! he said. If he [Ellison] would have [had] the courtesy to say something Im sure I would have been more accommodating to his wishes.
To help keep his office free of impurities, Tancredo has three air purifiers. And he has no plans to meet Ellison anytime soon. Im sure we will, but Im not going to make a point [of it], the presidential hopeful said, adding that he supported Ellisons right to be sworn in with the Quran.
Ellisons press secretary, Rick Jauert, made the call to the Superintendents office when he noticed the smoke. I called because the smoke was coming through the walls, Jauert said, adding that the Superintendents office referred him to the Capitol Police.
Jauert said he then informed his boss what he had done. He said fine, Jauert said. Hes complained of the smoke before.
Well that would be a sight....I don't even want to imagine all those arses bent over up in the air and the wailing. ewwww. Enough is enough ...is this what we pay these people to do... have little spats instead of doing their jobs? No wonder nothing ever seems to get done.... If smoking is such an issue then tell the new guy to get over it or deal with it. He is new after all....
What dat?
Now that I know Tancredo enjoys cigars, his coolness rating has gone way up.
Your friend Ellison needs to go soak his head.
Let me see if I understand this correctly...
Call in the FBI to find $90,000 in bribes stored in the refrigerator in your office, and the Speaker of the House will defend you, but call the police because you smoked in your office and...

Golly?!
For starters, your spelling sucks. That's the point of the quote.
My feelings exactly and we are not alone.
Are you implying that what you write is actually readable?
My, my, my.
Thank you slick willy. It will take some time to get passed this bullsh*t
Thank you..its good to know that....~P~
Good for Tancredo! Ellison is the enemy of America in every way.
I totally agree with you! Why is it that a smoker can be in one spot smoking and then an anti walks into their space and starts to complain? GO AWAY IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT!
Now, we all know, that anyone with even HALF A BRAIN knows that that muslim didn't see smoke rolling through his wall, he simply smelled the scent of tobacco, which is not the same thing as having second hand smoke blown in your face.
He decided to make an enemy of his next door neighbor for reasons known only to himself. But, I for one, am going to email that idiot and let him know what I think of him.
lmao
Ditto to what you said.
You tell me.
Ah, Man;
As much as I personally despise public smokers in general, and cigar smokers in particular.... I despise people like Ellison even more. Gad! Even discounting his 'muslimness'; what a collossal, immature, weenie. Ellison makes Kerry and Murtha seem like mature, rational adults.
If I were Tancredo, I would complain of the Muslim stench coming from the next office.
It seems non smokers feel they have the right to walk into my air space and tell me I can't smoke. I try very hard to be reasonable but I will not give an inch as long as its outside. I tell them move along if you don't like it. I usually find the most complainers are former smokers. I try to be civil about it but why do I have to move? I used to but I don't anymore. As for Ellison I find him to just be a big mouth...I don't like him at all. I think he is a media ho, he likes attention. Perhaps a good look into his past would give him some attention...~P~
Anti-tobacco zealots are unAmerican and must be stopped.
Please, point out my spelling errors. I would appreciate it!
