BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -
The U.S. military has detected a significant increase in the number of sophisticated roadside bombs appearing in Iraq and believes that orders to send components for them came from the "highest levels" of the Iranian goverment, a senior intelligence officer said Sunday.
The officer, briefing reporters on condition he not be further identified, said that between June 2004 and last week, more than 170 Americans had been killed by the bombs, which the military calls "explosively formed projectiles."
Those weapons are capable of destroying an Abrams tank.
The officer said American intelligence analysts believe the explosives are manufactured in Iran and smuggled into Iraq on orders from the top of the Iranian government. He did not elaborate.
U.S. officials have alleged for years that weapons were entering the country from Iran but had stopped short of alleging involvement by top Iranian leaders.

If we are not going to bomb them, can we at least start sabotaging stuff in Iran, setting off some of our own car bombs, etc.? Can't we send weapons to the various dissident groups in Iran? I am sure the students that keep protesting and getting killed could use some training before they are all wiped out.

Instead, we have the nearly all Democrats and too many Republicans talking about how to lose the war while pretending that we didn't.No, we have too many democrats and too many Republican's with their finger up in the political winds for self promotion to have time to worry about what is best for our sovereignty nation.

Smoking gun. We should bombard every Iranian military installation within 200 miles of the Iraqi border. Is it true that we now have three carrier groups in the region? Better Iran beware the Ides of March.

No, mining the borders is too big of a project, too costly, would require clean up in the future, could be disrupted by well-trained explosives types, and is just not practical. Instead I recommend this. Destroy all of its military infrastructure and weapons: all of its planes, all of its ships, all of its missiles, all of its nuclear research facilities, all of its air fields, all of its ammunition storage sites and ammuntion production facilities, mine its harbors, and destroy all of its industrial sites that produce weapons. This would be a just war applied to a mullah dictatorship that has averred its intent to destroy a UN member state. We would not purposely target civilians. By doing this, we defang Iran and it's ability to do mischieve on an international stage is greatly diminished. It will force Iran to focus its attention on its own benighted mullah-led dictatorship.

Was Putin's statement that the U.S. is trying to dominate the world a veiled threat not to attack the Iranians?

Iran reckons years according to Haji, making this year 1386.
I would have thought Iranian munitions would have a Haji
date not a Western one.

I think that's why the Pres. hasn't made an official announcement regarding all the evidence and the proof of Iran's involvement in Iraq.
He's waiting to get all his ducks in a row - so to speak.

If Iran was supplying only the Shiite majority, the civil war would be over in short order.
They're supplying both sides. The civil war is, in actuality, an Iranian invasion. It has been for at least two years now.

where are the drones for surveillance? I am sure the "Lorries" have only one or two paths into Iraq. Hellfire them. Not so simple. Don't forget, we fight a PC war, and allow an army of Iranians to flow across the border from Iran to Iraq so they can store these weapons at Mosks "holy sites" (Islamic munition depots and fortresses) visit "holy sites". We can't just strafe them from gunships.

I saw a fascinating Futureweapons show recently about some specialized explosives. One was a tiny plastic cylinder that held 2 ounces of explosive and a tiny metal cone, and it perched on a flimsy wire tripod over ordnance to be disposed. Firing it caused a tiny focused hole to be drilled through the thick steel casing below, and hardly any shrapnel except plastic dust in every other direction. It is like an explosive laser.
Even more amazing was the air-dropped canister weapon that launched a flock of tiny, hockey-puck sized "skeets" above a column of enemy armor. The skeets sought out the heat signature of the engines and detonated in midair, drilling a hole through thick armor far below with a stream of hot molten metal and frying everything inside.
I am trying to understand the physics of how these things are possible.

You idea sound good except for the fact Iran's military infrastructure is probably in the middle of the civilian residences. And we probably cannot afford to pick another fight right now.
How about this instead? We start supplying and training the Iranian Kurds to fight for their independence? Wouldn't that be a kick in the butt?
