We have a cleaner enviroment and higher standards than most countries.
She really should do her whining in India and China.
Obviously clueless about coal-fired generation and emission standards.
So (certain) Baptists are okay if folks freeze. Got it. Now no whining when it happens.
BGCT is the liberal side of the Southern Baptists. The conservatives are the SBT - Southern Baptists of Texas.
Liberal organization
unbelievable that the Baptist Church in Texas of all places could be taken over by leftists.
Suzii? With two i's? Does she draw little hearts over them?
Fine.
Build nuclear power plants instead. I wonder how that would fare??
Mary Darden, a Baptist deacon and president of Keep Waco Green
Now that is really something, "Keep Waco Green" and Baptist Deaconess in the same sentence..
I find it strange that the article used the male form of a Church office even though a female is holding it.
This group of Baptists in Texas like to characterize themselves as moderates when, in fact, they are liberals in theology and earth issues!
If they want to protest the plants, they should take it all the way and demand that all 2.3 million of their members stop using electricity. That would more than remove the need for the extra plants.
***Paynter said Texas Baptists' involvement stems from concern over how dirty air is affecting the health of church members. ***
Dirty Air? Come on lady. With Electrostatic precipitators and scrubbers to be built along with No2 controls there is some of the cleanest coal fired plants here in the US.
Thirty two years ago when the power plant was built in NW Arkansas the cry was the ash would cover every one and everything up! It has not. The plant area is very clean and there are even EAGLES that winter at the cooling lake near here.
In NE Oklahoma th GRDA plant was built next to a hunting area and fishing river. No problems from them either. The only problem was when PCBs were found in the river there about 25 years ago traced to a leaking capacitor on an AC unit in Pryor. It was cleaned up years ago.
BTW, this type of crap is why I have some disdain for organized religion. Pro-life? Pro-war? Anti-taxes? You can pretty much count on being relegated to starting your own congregation. OTOH, Socialist? Anti-death-penalty? Pacifist? In that case, we, organized religion, will aid and abet the DinoMedia in promoting leftist propaganda in guise of religion until the end of time.
Good grief -- lefties taking over Baptist organizations.
They are either liars or fools. The facts are that TXU's plan will increase their power generated by 50% while the TOTAL of harmful emissions will GO DOWN BY 20%. How can TXU possibly accomplish that? By building new, far cleaner coal plants that will replace and shut down some of the older, sootier plants, and upgrading other existing plants with cleaner technology and/or using more cleaner-burning WY coal instead of TX lignite.
All that is ALWAYS pointed out to these groups and the media, so if it is missing from the story then the writer either failed to get both sides or is a dishonest advocate of the leftist side.
Praise the Lord and pass the candles!

Texas' largest Baptist group is taking a rare step into environmental advocacy"
Rare until now.
Watch for the Texas Christian Life Commission to start sticking it's nose into other political pies.
