Giuliani Strikes a Note With California GOP Testing the Waters, Former N.Y. Mayor Garners 4 Ovations

SACRAMENTO, Feb. 10 -- Rudolph W. Giuliani came west to learn whether his brand of Republican politics has a chance among party members significantly more conservative than himself. By the time he had received a fourth standing ovation Saturday at the California Republican Party convention, the answer seemed clear.

Equating the U.S. fight against terrorism with the Civil War and the Cold War, Giuliani told about 750 of his party's faithful that failure in Iraq would turn that country into a "massive headquarters for terrorism."

"Having had a job where I didn't have any choice but to make a decision," the former mayor of New York said, "prepares you as best you can be prepared to be the president of the United States."

If Hunter rises soon, I'll go for him. Otherwise, I want to win, and will vote for the GOP nominee.

You are cherry picking and ignoring a host of other issues where Rudy is quite liberal.

Horse feces. I conceded that Rudy is liberal on the main social issues such as abortion, gay rights, and gun control. However, his fiscal and national security conservatism, in addition to being conservative on other social issues such as the welfare state and poverty, more than makes up for this.

Besides, for the millionth time Rudy doesn't have any power over abortion, gay rights or the 20,000 gun control laws that were already in effect before he became nationally known. If you think voters are more concerned over these three or four social issues than over the broader context of limiting government and winning the war on terrorism, which would resolve the aforementioned other issues, you're crazy.

"Otherwise, I want to win, and will vote for the GOP nominee."

You will be voting there without me, if it is Rudy. And without the many like me.

If Rudy wins the primary I hope you will vote for him. I know I will vote for the party's nominee whoever it turns out to be.

Ross Perot had drawing power due to the demonization of George Herbert Walker Bush's remark, "Read my lips: no new taxes."

Rather than grant Bush credit for leadership in evicting Saddam Hussein from Kuwait, summer soldiers and sunshine patriots jumped ship and gave Bill and Hillary Clinton the position of Commander-in-Chief.

They then proceeded to inspire Osama bin Laden with their betrayal of our forces in Mogadishu (Aspin's denial of armor and gunships), give China our missile secrets (Loral-Hughes/Schwartz-Armstrong), our warhead secrets (Wen Ho Lee by inference from Notra Trulock, Code-Name: Kindred Spirit), covering up TWA 800, bowing to Iran's Khobar Towers bombing, OBLs African Embassy and Cole bombings.

We must defeat the Clinton Janus, for a nuclear Iran pampered by a Clinton-Obama or Clinton-Richardson ticket will act out to bring on the long lost imam.

A defeat for the Republican candidate will literally "bring the war home", something we must avoid.

Without a Republican victory we cannot address any issue below national security, for there will be no national security.

She Who Must Be Oyveyyed has informed us subjects she will exit Iraq--indeed, Obama the talking chin implant has also informed us of this.

"'Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it.'
Rudy Giuliani" Were you under the impression that Freedom is anarchy? In a representative republic the law is created by representatives of the People and must be obeyed.

Rudy is a liberal

Apparently, conservatives no longer care about limiting government anymore. Rudy record is more conservative than the class of 1994 Congressional Republicans who pissed away 12 years.

You'll see much California GOP bashing on this thread.

The folks here pushing Rudy are most of the same ones that were here 4 years ago swooning over Arnold, about what a true fiscal conservative he was, how he would grow the Republican party and deliver the state of California to Bush, how his environmental plan wasn't any problem, how he would CUT, CUT, CUT... etc. How has that worked out for ya? Since they can't seem to learn from experience, why shouldn't they be bashed? It's like watching a car crash in slow motion.

I'm with you. How many Americans have been killed by jihadists? Now how many have been killed by abortions?

You are right, Islamic countries outlow abortion completely. Since abortion is the most important issue, it's okay to be a dhimmi.

Interesting "logic." Outlawing abortion is one of the few good things about Islamic countries. You and your fellow abortion lovers will be responsible for many more American deaths than will the koranimals, by a factor of about 1000. What do you think is the most important issue?

A canned graphic is far from the "truth". The truth is Guiliani's leadership ability terrifies you.

"I know I will vote for the party's nominee whoever it turns out to be."

EXACTLY!

I don't yet have a primary preference, but there are three or four in the pack I hope do not emerge as the nominee. I am not saving or posting opposition research on any of the Republican candidates. My time spent on that activity has been allotted to the democratICK candidates.

Having 'our side' rip the throats out of virtually every viable contender for the nomination is simply doing the dems work for them and will cost us dearly.
