"An illegal immigrant from Ghana was driving a tractor-trailer that rear-ended a car"
Sam P. Thompson, of Gaithersburg, MD? The same person? What are they doing to the trucking company that hired him?

How did he get a CDL, even with that white-bread name?

From the middle of the artcle--
State police Trooper Richard Mahokey said Thompson is an illegal immigrant from Ghana who had been facing deportation. Mahokey said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement asked yesterday that Thompson be detained by police.
Sounds like we knew this illegal was here (another catch and release?) but were unable to get rid of him before he ended up killing a very lovely young woman.

Buel Young, spokesman for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, said that based on a state Attorney General's opinion issued a few years ago, transportation officials don't ask whether a person applying for a license is in the United States legally.
Well, there you go. There is no state in the country where you have show more paperwork and go through more crap to get your driver's license. But you don't have to be in the country legally. Maryland is disgraceful sometimes.

After reading this line in the article, I got curious and looked it up-
"Buel Young, spokesman for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, said that based on a state Attorney General's opinion issued a few years ago, transportation officials don't ask whether a person applying for a license is in the United States legally.
Someone applying for a Maryland driver's license must show proof of identity, age and state residency, Young said."
This seems to be a ruling by the former Attorney General of Maryland Joe Curran Jr.- a DEMOCRAT!

Why do I get the feeling that “illegal alien” Thompson will just disappear? This story bears looking into for connections to the situation in Honduras. Maybe nothing but it seems a little Arkancidey to me.
