The liberals excels at Unintended Consequences. It is very possible that, far from destroying Christianity, their continued assault on it may drive its adherents to unsurpassed levels of unity. It would be the ultimate irony if secular humanism reversed the disintegration Luther started 500 years ago, and gelled an ecumenical Christian army that could finish what the Crusades started.
