The .50 BMG is a fantastic weapon, extremely accurate at 800 meters, lots of fire power, long range. Just don't get the assignment of breaking one down and lugging it out of the hills.

One of the VN vets in my unit mentioned once that the worse sound you can hear in a firefight, is the sound of a .50 caliber sized weapon going off when you know you don't have one.

I've had soldiers tell me that the sound of the .50 cal gave them the confidence to drive on. Outstanding weapon, indeed!
