The last long shot to win the GOP nod was Wendell Wilkie in 1940. The only other long shot in the last 100 years was Harding. You would have to go back to Gov Romney (not this one, his dad)to find a front runner who lost and that was 40 years ago. Nope, History is seriously against Hunter. I think it will actually be harder this year as Newt is already sucking the oxygen out of the also runs while not having a chance him self.

Perhaps, but we're not slaves to history. And this is a very strange election cycle with a lot of weird dynamics. Former 1st Lady running. Black candidate running with a real shot. GOP front-runners all with serious baggage.

In my opinion, unless the GOP gets behind someone who can truly run as a Reagan conservative, we're toast.

I'm putting my money on Duncan Hunter. To my mind, all the other "frontrunning" candidates lead to a loss in November 2008.
