Still Waiting

I don't know about anyone else, but I am still waiting for Michael Schiavo to make a correction on his blog about what "actually" took place in Colorado when he went there (to the debate) to supposedly ask Congresswoman Musgrave one question and she and her staff supposedly tried to have him removed. He called it, "My unreal night in Colorado - with radio link" (Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 08:05:14 PM PST). I'll say (from what I read) that it was his "unreal night".

As I said before in "Standing up and Admitting a Mistake: Not Schiavo's Style?",  if four uniformed officers were around my seat, I would have some idea of what was going on. I certainly wouldn't be sitting in "duh mode" to only be told later of what took place right there around me, as Michael suggests he was. If Michael's account is realistic -- his response and reaction is not. Nor is his response appropriate now that he has "learned" what he was "allegedly told" is not what took place. One would think if he can't get the words out that he was mistaken, he could at least have removed the inaccurate entry from his blog.

He has done neither.

I'm also still waiting to read about, "Also, maybe tomorrow I'll post about my election-eve rally with Bill Clinton in Florida." (A real election impact by Michael Schiavo, Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 10:40:34 AM PST).  Indeed, I would love to read that story by Michael, since I read it was not possible. Not if he was implying it was the Bill Clinton that is the former President of the United States. Will be interesting to see what he says about that if he ever does.

If Michael couldn't get it straight what happened at the Musgrave debate or even if he spent election-eve with former President Bill Clinton -- do you suppose he might have gotten Terri Schiavo's wishes mixed-up as well? (He does claim to have a bad memory from what I read.) Makes one wonder. At least makes me wonder. Whatever...

I'm still waiting for the corrections if not the explanations!

Thanks, FV for the reminder...

The Pope opposed homosexual unions and adoptions saying children needed to grow up and find nurturing in a family with a father and a mother. He lamented that same-sex unions distort “what should be a communion of love and life between a man and a woman in a reciprocal gift open to life.”

On his deathbed the Pope asked Catholics and people of good will to protect the rights of the unborn, and also expressed solidarity with Terri Schiavo and her right to be kept alive on food and fluids through the feeding tube which she was denied. He would follow her death 48 hours later.

Just the year before, the Pope had settled the question that food and fluids were morally obligatory to all human beings, and said that all persons were owed recognition of their inherent human dignity regardless of their cognitive state.

Texas...

LUFKIN — Two hundred and eight white wooden crosses dot the green lawn of St. Andrew Catholic Church along busy Feagin Drive in Lufkin.

The "Cemetery of the Innocents" display memorializes what the church says are 208 unborn Texans killed every day through abortion.

With the right-to-life debate continuing, today is the second anniversary of the death of Terry Schiavo. She was the 41-year-old brain-damaged Florida woman whose death after supportive care was removed following a legal battle sparked a national debate on issues of human right to life and death.

"Every being on earth has the right to live. That right should not be violated by human hands. I believe ultimately God is the force of all life," Kannampuzha said.

Wagglebee has a thread on what comes in sight down that twisted path our nation is taking...

FRONT ROYAL, Virginia, April 2, 2007 (POP.org/LifeSiteNews.com) - For a number of years now, a great deal of discussion has taken place among scientists and in the popular media about the genetic engineering of children. Will it soon be possible, for prices widely affordable at least to the upper-middle class, to guarantee that children have a high IQ, or excellent athletic ability, or be over 6 feet tall, or have blond hair and blue eyes? Is it right to commodify children in this way, and have parents choosing options as they do with cars? And wouldn’t it be boring to live in a world someday where almost everyone is extremely intelligent and beautiful? Variety, or even the politically correct term “diversity,” is the spice of life.

But not everyone wants what seemed to be the three genetic engineering options: refrain and let nature take her course, attempt to repair genetic diseases but otherwise let well enough alone, or select positive qualities in children. There are parents who are deliberately ensuring that their children are born with disabilities, from deafness to dwarfism. A fourth option—inflicting permanent disabling conditions on children—is now being used.

For some years now, some deaf parents have refused to allow their deaf children to receive cochlear implants that would enable them to hear. The devices must often be implanted when children are very young in order to work, so such parents condemn their children to a lifetime of deafness when they could have been able to hear.

Disturbing trend: Designer children designed to be disabled

Wagglebee has a separate thread on the Life Site article about Terri...

April 2, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A year ago this weekend, March 31, marks the second anniversary of the death of Theresa Marie "Terri" Schiavo, who died after being denied nutrition and hydration for two weeks. The manner of death was certified as "undetermined".

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and a friend of the Schindler family, said this weekend, "Terri's case remains shrouded in massive ignorance."

Wagglebee thread...

Those minutes around 9:00 are seared into my memory...

Today marks the two year anniversary of the death of Terri Schiavo.

I don't imagine I’ll ever forget that morning, receiving a phone call from Bobby Schindler to tell me he and his younger sister were just escorted out of Terri’s room. Thinking back, that might have been the first time I actually heard him crying.

That was a few minutes to 9.00am on March 31, 2005.

Yes, I see your point, and I did read this at the time. But note, he bought into the standard media lines, assuming that Terri had a heart attack, was unconscious, etc., and that Judge Greer was fair and judicious. In a word, he had only a surface impression of the case and didn't know any of the sordid details. Other people whom I admire bought into the disinformation too.

One reflects, but with sadness, that even friends aren't going to reach the right conclusions if they start with a false picture. For me and I suspect for all of us, this is what animates our effort to tell Terri's story and make the truth known.

Well stated. I know of people who would have supported Terri, only they believed what was said in MSM.

A few more visitors dropped in yesterday to instruct us to shut the h*ll up. (Nobody did :-) ) That's why I'm using the White Rose tagline this morning.

No point in perturbing such transients with a ping, they are all cut from the same dough by the same cookie cutter. What interests us is The Line they try to peddle, not personalities. Another visitor instructed us to let Terri rest in peace. Unless the news media have lied the last couple of years, she's already doing that. It's her killers and their cheerleaders who shall know no peace.

The court of history is in session and its work, most of all here in Free Republic, is before the world on the Internet. The light shineth on these grubs and they scurry for the dark, but will find none.

Kind of a battery charge for us, isn't it? Something in our soul hates it when the truth is twisted and justice is denied. There is no rest for the wicked, and no rest for us wickedness hunters! :-) We must put things right.

Returning to a post from yesterday, let me replay this memorable short paragraph:

Notre Dame law professor O. Carter Snead argues powerfully that the Florida courts "abandoned" their "clear and convincing" standard, thus making it impossible "to have any confidence that Mrs. Schiavo's actual intentions were honored." Snead says further that Judge Greer applied the standard "in an unrigorous and unreliable manner " while relying on evidence that constituted "a veritable parade of every species of presumptively unreliable statement long rejected by courts across the nation called upon to adjudicate end of life disputes.

What we have here is a law professor critiquing (1) George Felos's clumsy and completely underhanded coaching of Scott and Joan Schiavo's testimony, and (2) George Greer's at least tacit conspiracy with Felos to declare this garbage to be "clear and convincing" evidence. (I strongly suspect it was more than tacit conspiracy, but can't prove it... yet.)

I'd say the critique extends to (3) Judge Whittemore and the higher courts for buying the garbage. Their intelligence, if they have any, should have been outraged by it.

But note, he bought into the standard media lines,

I noticed that.

"What broke the back of the Free Elian movement was a social convention: deferral to the wishes of the father. He wanted Elian home, and traveled to Florida to pick him up after an eristic judicial storm — which ended with the simple daybreak that the future of a child is to be decided by his parents." - William F. Buckley Jr.

No, they were protecting Terri's rights. Pay particular attention to page 11 on this pdf document. Then vomit.

This post is not about Terri directly, but about those of her Legacy. In this case, it is an update on one of the perps in the life of Haleigh Poutre as the gears of justice grind slow and squeak a lot.

..............................

SPRINGFIELD - The trial date for Jason D. Strickland, 33, of Westfield, charged with assault after his stepdaughter Haleigh Poutre was hospitalized with a brain injury, was rescheduled yesterday from April 18 to June 20.

Hampden Superior Court Judge Peter A. Velis allowed Assistant District Attorney Laurel H. Brandt's request to have a DNA swab taken from Strickland and to have more time for evaluation of swabs from various items at the home.

Defense lawyer Gregory T. Schubert opposed Brandt's motion, saying that his client deserves to have his trial without future delays. "This is ridiculous, judge," he said.

Haleigh, 12, now in a Boston rehabilitation center for children, was first hospitalized in 2005. Strickland and his wife, Haleigh's adopted mother, Holli A. Strickland, were arrested and charged with assault. Holli Strickland died later that year in what West Springfield police said appeared to be a murder-suicide at the hands of her grandmother.

Poutre case delayed

As this is Holy Week, we still remember back those two years ago to another Holy Week. May we not forget the others such as Scott Thomas,

Scott's Fight

And may we remember Andrea Clark confronting the Texas Futile Care Law, and Jimmy Chambers, and the other innocents falling under the shadow of a State willing to take their lives.
