There is no way that many people will identify as social issues voters in the Republican Party. There are a lot more pro-military, fiscal conservatives in the Party IMHO not to mention there are a number of moderates.

[ He's traveled all over the country, last year, WITH HILLARY, helping her to push her HILLARY CARE PART 2. He is NOT as Conmservative as you think he is, and I haven't forgotten anything about his tenure as House Leader and all of his cavings to the Clintons. ]

SO THEN.. there IS a shadow government...

Just look at the Duncan Hunter support here versus in polls outside of FR which represent likely voters

The election is a long way off. You want a liberal so bad, you are jumping the gun.

FR is supposed to be a site to promote conservative candidates.

There is a little scrawny Duncan Hunter thread going on right now. It's calling your name.

I'd rather be on this one. I love arguing with liberals, especially when they are Republicans. I live In Idaho where all of our legislators have Rs behind their name whether they are Republicans , or Democrats. You are no different than any of the rest of them.

Anyway Duncan Hunter doesn't have enough negatives to debate.

Then you obviously are not out in the trenches working for candidates and meeting a lot of other Republicans. Even here in OK, Republicans are getting fed up with the values only Reps who have introduced some bills that make the rest of us cringe. The pendulum swung too far right and is in the process of swinging back to a more common sense approach. Not to say that values are not important because I believe they are but other issues are more of a priority like roads and bridges in my state.

We had a lady killed near where I live on the Interstate because part of the bridge fell down. Not to mention our state was on fire and the values reps were debating where to put library books on the OKC library shelf while our rural firefighters were waiting for a vote on their needed equipment and resources. Turned a lot of us off that they put social issues that were rightly a community problem ahead of the safety of people and animals in the path of the fires.

How about a bill that would allow a pharmacist to decide which prescriptions to fill from the doctor if he didn't agree with the prescription?

I could go on and on about some of the worst bills and resolutions submitted and then they had to go in special session to get paid more in order to pass the budget.

This is why I think your figure is way to high or there would be a values candidate running. What you have this time are a few people pandering to values voters IMO.

Oh stop it. I voted for Reagan for governor of California and all elections thereafter.

This more-conservative-than-thou posturing is getting old.

Vote for Hunter. I don't even want to stop you. But you're not going to win. At least we have a shot.

FReepers and Lurkers are very capable of reading the poll results for themselves.

I said nothing about any specific poll speaking for the entire FR community. Right? Right!

The FR polls are what they are. Representative of those members and non-members who choose to vote.

If the FR poll questions meant nothing, JimRob would do away with them.

Do you want me to be blunt, but factual, or do you want me to sugarcoat it all for you and try to make you believe in the magic of "BELIEVING", as they do on DU?

This is FR, so I'll be blunt; okay?

First of all, it's spelled NEWT and IF he was serious about getting into the primary, he would not be playing coy games and saying that he's not even going to think about it, until September. Newt knows HOW politics works. He also KNOWS that his disapproval ratings are sky high and WHY.

Yes, he has an ego, yes, he is a good speaker....sometimes, but by NOT going after financial and political backing now...he is NOT a "serious" contender. And IF he is sort of serious and waiting in the wings, hoping that one of the top three implodes by September, thinking that he can then sweep in, take over ALL of that person's teams and backing, he is in for a rude awakening!

Duncan Hunter may look good to you on paper, now, but you really don't know everything there is to know about him...yet.

He and Tancredo and Ron Paul and others on the very bottom are fighting an uphill battle, with NO chance of winning. WHY? Because they don't know what they're doing!

Nobody, NOBODY who wants to be president makes a public statement like the Duncan did about not needing 100 million dollars, because he's a Conservative and doesn't need people to tell everyone who he is.

FREEPERS, who are much more attuned to news and politics than the rest of America never heard of him, until his name began popping up on FR as a primary candidate; not even some CALIFORNIA FREEPERS!

To win a primary, you need pots of money, EVEN IF YOU ARE CONSERVATIVE, political backing, name recognition MONTHS, if not years before the first primary begins, and a vast array of advisers, PR guys, teams set up in each state for fund raising as well as to get you talked about in each little community and to begin to set things up for you, so that when you actually get there, you know exactly whereto go, who to see, and what topics are the "hot buttons" there.

I hope that you actually read and then THINK about what I have just explained to you. These are some of the facts of the matter; facts that you MUST face. This is a completely unemotional appraisal I have given you. I don't care WHO you support in the primary, but if you believe that someone who has NOT done anything whatsoever to do the things that MUST be done, RIGHT NOW ( more like months ago ), has any chance of winning the primary, them you and your candidate are delusional.

Repeating falsehoods once again.

Just for the record. Newt and Hillary joined forces on the issue of reforming the current system that handles private medical records of American's, from a cumbersome, unsafe paper file system, to a more secure electronic record keeping system. Newt did support Bush`s Medicare prescription Drug Program, but he never traveled with Hillary on some quest for HILLARY CARE PART 2!

You've known me for what, 9 years? I've never had much luck in learning HTML stuff. Remember when I didn't even know how to make a paragraph? Boy, am I ashamed of those old posts!

I don't know how to do links, so asking me to do one, is useless. SORRY!

Are you kidding, I have knocked on over 5000 doors in the last two elections.Over 8 of Idahos largest counties. I managed 2 state legislator campaigns, worked closely on 2 more. I did alot with a state senate campaign, and worked officially on Congressman Bill Sali's campaign. ALL WINNERS! ALL CONSERVATIVE!

I've been doing this for years and know grassroots campaigning. I especially know "regular folks".

One thing that really stands out to me is how many people mention pro-life as the major issue to them at the door.

Even here in OK, Republicans are getting fed up with the values only Reps who have introduced some bills that make the rest of us cringe.

People all over the US are sick of values only, thats why we have all the serious problems, family breakups, drugs, alcohol, etc.

I have lived in Missouri and OK and I can't believe people there aren't into values issues. I can believe that they aren't for candidates who are one issue candidates.

Very few if any of us who your bunch call "one issue" voters are. If one is solid on pro-life issues they are probably for the rest of the core Republican issues, less government, less spending, lower taxes, free enterprise, private property rights, border control for national security, 2nd amendment and all the pro-life, pro-family issues.

Pro-Illegal Immigration

As Tom Bevan of RealClearPolitics has pointed out, Rudy is an adherent of the same approach to illegal immigration that John McCain, Ted Kennedy, George Bush, and Harry Reid have championed:

"While McCain has taken heat for his support of comprehensive immigration reform, Rudy is every bit as pro-immigration as McCain - if not more so. On the O'Reilly Factor last week Giuliani argued for a "practical approach" to immigration and cited his efforts as Mayor of New York City to "regularize" illegal immigrants by providing them with access to city services like public education to "make their lives reasonable." Giuliani did say that "a tremendous amount of money should be put into the physical security" needed to stop the flow of illegal immigrants coming across the border, but his overall position on immigration is essentially indistinguishable from McCain's."

That's bad enough. But, as Michelle Malkin has revealed, under Giuliani, New York was an illegal alien sanctuary and "America's Mayor" actually sued the federal government in an effort to keep New York City employees from having to cooperate with the INS:

"When Congress enacted immigration reform laws that forbade local governments from barring employees from cooperating with the INS, Mayor Rudy Giuliani filed suit against the feds in 1997. He was rebuffed by two lower courts, which ruled that the sanctuary order amounted to special treatment for illegal aliens and were nothing more than an unlawful effort to flaunt federal enforcement efforts against illegal aliens. In January 2000, the Supreme Court rejected his appeal, but Giuliani vowed to ignore the law."

If you agree with the way that Nancy Pelosi and Company deal with illegal immigration, then you'll find the way that Rudy Giuliani tackles the issue to be right down your alley.
