Congressman Dennis Kucinich is now on Fox. He is reintroducing the "Fairness Doctrine" to be passed into law. He does not like conservative radio and blogs and is intent upon ending them by making broadcasters air "opposing opinions" for each "conservative program." He is ripping Hannity for "not letting him talk" even as he is interviewed. I suspect the House will pass this. Don't know about the Senate.
For his second act he will introduce book burning...
His bill is DOA.
buckeye, I just watched it again. I agree. Colmes (shocking me) made sense.
I can't believe Ohio voters elected this nutcase. He is downright spooky!
He's kind of like what I picture Dingy Harry's lil bro to look like.
Kook-cinich: "We have to stop these crazy conservatives from being heard..er, I mean, uh we have to have fairness in broadcasting. Which means I hope eventually we'll be able to ban conservatives from the airwaves. Er, I mean hopefully we'll have all voices heard." (stuffs Lenin's Book of Commie Wisdom in pocket and leaves the podium)
Colmes may be liberal but he knows which side his bread is buttered on.
I like Colmes, though. He seems to be a genuine person.
The Government will just state that ABCCBSNBC etc is not liberal or slanted and taking a side...isn't that what they are doing right now?
I believe we have what is called a Supreme Court, currently and for the coming future conservative leaning, we have what is called Due Process rights which does not allow for selective prosecution, how a liberal station would be recused from following that doctrine I fail to see.
OK OK enough with the pics
The TV news companies should be highly disconcerted by this. They will have to interrupt Couric every five minutes for five minutes of Savage or Rush.
Y'know, even if this ever passed both houses with veto proof majoritites, it wouldn't be the end of the hosts that we know. Satellite radio would explode with more hosts and the internet would still broadcast talk radio. The libs can fantasize about media they adored 15 years ago and beyon, but the toothpaste is already out of the tube on this one and people know the difference now.
See the way I remember this doctrine working when it was in effect was that even editorials given by management of tv stations they had to grant time for oppossing views, I remember that being the case, now any station bringing on a Liberal member of congress has to bring in a Conservative viewpoint.
Nowadays with so many different views from Liberterians, Independents et al this Doctrine will face immediate Due Process suits from many avenues, I do not see this as any great challenge.
Has Bush hinted that he would sign this?
He could never be elected, of course, but if he were this is a sign he would be the USA's version of Hugo Chavez.
No, but there is only so much airtime and there is a lot more conservatives on the radio than liberals. The libs make it up in Journalism..... which is failing almost as rapidly as errrrrr America.
