Eagle lugging a deer head causes outage

JUNEAU, Alaska - About 10,000 Juneau residents briefly lost power after a bald eagle lugging a deer head crashed into transmission lines.

"You have to live in Alaska to have this kind of outage scenario," said Gayle Wood, an Alaska Electric Light & Power spokeswoman. "This is the story of the overly ambitious eagle who evidently found a deer head in the landfill."

The bird, weighed down by the deer head, apparently failed to clear the transmission lines, she said. A repair crew found the eagle dead, the deer head nearby.

The power was out for less than 45 minutes Sunday.

One can imagine a scenario where Federal Fish & Wildlife
start sniffing around the Landfill looking for a little
scratch, due to the untimley loss of the bird due to the
attractive nuisance caused by the landfill.

The bird, weighed down by the deer head, apparently failed to clear the transmission lines...

Reminds me of a raccoon trap: Anchor a gallon jug with a rope. Put a peeled apple into the jug. Raccoon sticks his paw in and grabs the apple. Apple-in-paw won't clear the jug's narrow jug neck, and the raccoon won't let go of his prize. Shoot the raccoon, and save the jug and apple for another raccoon.

A factory where I once worked had a Raccoon get into a big transformer and knocked out the power for an entire 8 hr shift. The Coon lived even though most of its hair was burned off!!

This eagle's alligator appetite overloaded his hummingbird lift.

I thought it said "Outrage". And I'm thinking, "Liberals will whine about everything..."

"This would have been a major score," Wood said. "That eagle would have been the king eagle of the Lemon Creek group."

Is this Miss Wood suggesting there is some kind of Avian Club House where Carrion Feeders show off their most impressive loot?

The Eagle should have picked up a train. Godzilla does and has no problems at all with high tension wires.

Well of course Godzilla has no problems with high tension wires when he picks up a train. He's insulated by the tracks; isn't he!

Have any of you freepers out there ever heard of the Washington Eagle? It was spotted by Audubon during his travels and specimens were known to exist back in the late 1800's. It is supposed to be larger than the bald eagle.

Maybe it was just stuned.

If you had not nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisys by now. It's joined the choir invisible... it's an ex - eagle!

'e's not stuned, he merely resting.

Resting? Are you sure?

Oh yes, he's all shagged out from a particulary long squak. Beautiful plumage!

I had a bird drop about an 18+" fish near me. Could have been a bald eagle, but more likely an osprey. Both were in the area, but there were more of the latter.

And, there were seals in the surrounding coves. The fish was interesting enough, but a seal's head would make a better story.

I wonder if the EPA is going to demand the power lines come down? (gd Nixon...)

Have seen eagles pick off new born caribou, actually they say they take 20% of them. We once had an eagle land on our kennel fence(8 sled dogs pups); grabbed 10-22 started zippin them off; flew away never come back.

Have seen eagles catch ducks on open water on frozen lake. They sat on edge of ice until ducks come up from under water & got their meal.

How's the burgh, I still miss the food, city, but been catchin all the Pens games on direct center ice; sure hope they stay there. You'd figure the politicians would be getting it all together down there. Believe it or not our repub politicals up here are even more corrupt than your dem ones down there. Less people, more money to steal.

Here's a pict I posted bout a month back of my youngest daughter and her pet wolverine, raised it from a pup of course. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Actually got in snare, froze hard, but its as big as they get and nice thick coat.

Couple of years back, an eagle picked up a yappy dog (Chihuahua) near Haines Junction. Freaked out the old lady owner. Funny story.
