Anti-war protesters were allowed to spray paint on part of thewest front steps of the United States Capitol building after police wereordered to break their security line by their leadership, two sources toldThe Hill.
According to the sources, police officers were livid when theywere told to fall back by U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) Chief Phillip Morse andDeputy Chief Daniel Nichols. "They were the commanders on the scene," one source said, who requested anonymity. "It was disgusting."
After police ceded the stairs, located on the lower west frontof the Capitol, the building was locked down, the source added.
A second source who witnessed the incident said that the policehad the crowd stopped at Third Street, but were told to bring the policeline in front of the Capitol.
Approximately 300 protesters were allowed to take the steps andbegan to spray paint "anarchist symbols" and phrase such as "Ourcapitol building" and "you cant stop us" around the area, thesource said.
Morse responded to these claims in an e-mail Sunday afternoon, explaining that the protesters were seeking confrontation with the police.
"While there were minor instances of spray painting ofpavement by a splinter group of Anarchists who were seeking a confrontationwith the police, their attempts to breach into secure areas and rush thedoors of the Capitol were thwarted," Morse said. "The graffiti waseasily removed by the dedicated [Architect of the Capitol] staff, some of whom responded on their day off to quickly clean the area."
He added, "It is the USCP's duty and responsibility to protectthe Capitol complex, staff and public while allowing the public to exercisetheir First Amendment rights
at the end of the day, both occurredwithout injury to protestors or officers."

Too bad some useful practices of the past have lost favor.
And who made the call?! McKinney?? (Cause we know who runs the Capitol police.)
This is OUTRAGEOUS. God, how I detest these people. Such spoiled rotten rodents that need to be exterminated.
When people break the law they should be arrested or punished. When they break the law in the very face of the police they should be arrested. If they resist they should overpowered. This is the simple stuff.
We have become a nation with spineless leaders, cowards at the top. A demonstration is not an enforcement free day. We are ruled by cowards. Utter cowards.
We may need to call Curtis Sliwa and allow the Guardian Angels guard the Capitol is the police won't do it.
So the police have utilized the "French maneuver" this time.
If Nifong, I mean Fitzgerald needs a real job then maybe he should look into this.
I totally agree. Curtis rocks and wouldn't let this sh*t happen on his watch.
This should not have been allowed.
And then what happens when they decide to set off some kind of homemade bomb the next time? That won't be so easily fixed.
I'm in Honduras or I would have been there.
Jackie Kucinich
Any wonder that DC touts one of the higher murder rates in the country?
If they can't handle the simple things...
I haven't gotten to look it up yet, but is Jackie related to Dennis?
Come now, vandalism is not a capital offense. It should be dealt with surly, but not as many here tonight are suggesting.
Certainly this was a skirmish between Left and Right, but we are not at WAR with our FELLOW AMERICANS.
Punish criminals, yes! Armed political oppression? "Kent State!?"
We are not giving a good show of ourselves tonight, folks.
Well, they finally got someone to "cut and run"!
?
What would be an appropriate way to protest that disgraceful handling of the incident?
"So what's next, the Tomb of the Unknown Solider?..sheesh."
It wouldn't surprise me. As I have been saying for some time, current leftist tactics are consciously following the Cambodian invasion script from 36 years ago and will climax with some kind of attempt to repeat the Kent State drama. The latter was probably the far left's single greatest propaganda coup of the Vietnam war, at a cost of just 4 dead, none of them significant leaders.
It may not play out the same way this time, however. Everything the Soros-funded left does is based on a script from their sacred dogma, most of which was codified shortly after the Vietnam War, and derived from leftist power fantasies about that conflict.
This script disregards both the historical realities of the time and the changes that have occurred since. In particular, sympathetic mass media will not have a monopoly on shaping public opinion this time around.
