Brownback is totally clueless for handing out political signs at the March for Life. How utterly inappropriate!

I am taking a wait and see attitude, this 2008 race is too big to get bogged down with a Candidate that thousands of others have more credentials than he does.

And so should we all adopt a cautious approach. You made excellent points in your post. But if there are those with more credentials, we need to see them step up to the plate. These people need to be tested in the glare of the public spotlight that only a personal announcement of presidential intentions brings to bear. This present discussion, for me, of possible candidates has meaning basically in the context of primaries. I would not look approvingly on a sub rosa candidate carefully weighing his/her chances and waiting for the passage of time to harm opponents while possibly hiding their own faults.

Sorry NRO is part of the problem not part of the solution.

I agree with you, and have said so since they turned on Bush openly at their 50th Anniversary Gala. Before that I only had suppositions, but that event erased all doubt. I never go to their website now.

Yet the media continues to carry the mantra that this President much get along with the demonrats. Must consult with the demonrats.

Always a one way street. At least this President knows in his heart that he has done everything possible to change the vitriolic rhetoric......and I remain so very proud of him, and continue to pray for him.

jeeeez, he took a long time off...and is still playing great, isn't he??

BTW..CNN showed a sound clip of Sen. Dodd getting all upset because Pres. Bush suggested that any of these resolutions might give hope to the insurgents.

Well..that is exactly what Gen. Petaeus told the Senators!!!

He, like a lot of other ersatz conservatives, seems to be seeking "strange new respect" from liberals.

EEEEE! I so miss you! Hope everything is peach keen and dandy for you.

Sorry light of my life but that assessment is without any merit. I do agree that the best odds, if you were to bet, would be to bet Hillary as the next President but neither McCain nor Newt will be her 2008 foe. Newt really does not want to do it. He has so convinced himself he is the "savior" of America's future he wants to play man behind the curtain pulling the strings, not actually have to be the guy making the decisions.

McCain does not poll at all well at the grass roots level. He has not won a single Republican state wide straw poll. Not one. Not one Republican Convention or traditional Republican supporting group convention has backed him. AS usual the Junk Media continually hyping of their junk media polls keeps confusing things. The Republican party, NOT the US News media, nominates their candidate.

There is no smoky back room where the party bosses anoint the chosen one in US Politics anymore. That pure Tin Foil hat Pat Buchanan style nonsense. If the Party Chiefs COULD pick their chosen one, it would be Rudy G, NOT McCain in any case. McCain is too old, too politically compromised, while Rudy is such a nice shinny nationally know "heroic" RINO. No dear heart, it will NOT be John McCain in 2008. Niether will it be Newt.

It will be President Hillary in 2008. Considering the utter inability of the "Conservative" media to actually support things, rather then just endlessly whine, linked to the Obnoxious Media Establishment complete betrayal of it suppose Journalistic ethics, there is NO hope for a Center-Right National Candidate in 2008 unless he can out Reagan Reagan. In a 24 hour hour new cycle the chances of that are slim to none.

Everyone knows that Old Joe paid for his Son to win the election by making deals in Chicago Mob Circles. If Nixon had contested that election he would have been President, and maybe JFK would have not been assassinated. Politics can turn on a dime today, unlike even 10 years ago, with the 24-7 DBM anything goes. Executive leadership is what the Voters want, they prefer former Governors as in Clinton, Carter, GWB, Reagan. Reagan had lots of leadership background in the SAG, and the Governor of the most populous State, California. He had lots of name recognition not just as the Governor, but with GE Theater, Death Valley Days, the Old Movies. I believe Richardson was counting on his Governor's role to run for President, and I would not be surprised if that was exactly why he ran. A very Conservative Nominee cannot win Nationwide despite what we hear about Reagan and GWB. Neither were really as Conservative as we might have wanted, and that is why they could win Nationwide. For that same reason Clinton moderated some of the wild eye leftist ideas when he ran, and when he listened to the radicals once he was elected he lost the House and Senate. I really do not like it, but the electorate will not elect a socially Conservative, fiscally moderate Hunter, they only would if those views were turned around. What we want and what we can have are two different things. I would not support Hunter at this juncture, he has almost no experience except being a Congressman, IMHO not good enough to run a White House and all of it's Agencies, employees with the enemy both foreign and domestic ready to get you.

No dear lady. They prefer Washington Outsiders, or the one who runs as being AGAINST the Washington Old Boy's Club. Kennedy ran against the "tired" Republican leadership. Nixon ran as the counter to the failed Democrat Leadership. Carter ran against DC, Reagan ran against DC, Clinton ran against DC, Bush 2 ran against DC. I know that "Governors win" is one of those trite "Conventional Wisdom" sound bites that does NOT stand up to factual analysis. Kennedy, Nixon and Bush 1 had NO are almost NO Executive experience. Neither did Al Gore and he ALMOST won. Two years at CIA or seving as VP in NO way translates into serious "Executive Leadership". All a VP does in most Admin is hold the President's coat.

We have NO idea how a Congress Critter only, as opposed to a US Senator, would do since we have NEVER run one. Especially we have never run one against an open feild with no obvious torch bearer. The reason it is not conventional wisdom is because NO ONE HAS EVER TRIED IT not because it cannot be done.

I do not think you understand where I am coming from. I am a political animal, and I know all about Duncan Hunter. I am hearing these overly excited voices sound just like they did with Allen, and he was a legitimate former Chief Executive and sitting Senator. We need to be pragmatic, none of this all eggs in one basket, and get burned stuff. He is a Congressman, one of 435 in the House. He does not manage anything, even his staff is managed by someone else. Congressmen, just like Senators have Voting records to pick apart, and they are not Solitary leaders, they act as a Group, and their Approval rating is nothing to be proud of at this point. I am sorry, but he is the last Candidate of the Pubbies that I would support, even behind Crazy Mccain. I was not a GWB supporter originally, and he had good credentials.

I worked in the Pro Life Community in Broward, and I was surprised at how many were Gals or Husbands and boyfriends of Gals that had Abortions. They were the loudest voices for life, especially the Gals that were left sterile. Most of us do not know what goes on behind the scenes as they talk to women that are afraid and see no other solution. It was emotionally draining at times, but real progress has been made in the last few years, especially with 3D ultrasound available.

I sent you a link to his voting records. Pick away. I am objecting to this knee jerk refusal to consider Hunter because he is pigeon holed into one of those "he cannot win" nonsensical categories so beloved by the DC Establishment.

You remind me of the "Conventional wisdom" about Reagan in 1976. Reagan was supposedly "too old", "too hard core Conservative", "too mean and scary" to win. That may not be how you mean to come across but that is how you sound on this side.

I am not saying anoint Hunter Now, I am saying is people should be considering him rather the automatically rejecting him since he doesn't fit some preconceived checklist.

The retarded Rats have no ideas. All they do is obstruct, complain, bellyache, and threaten. Their leaders are the most strident, nasty, anti American Pieces of work to ever hold office. They think that they have carte blanche to turn this Country into a freaking socialist Hovel, and as usual they misread the elections. People do not want us to lose, and they Love our Soldiers, and only want the best for them. We remember what the worst President (Jimmah) to ever hear "Hail to the Chief" did to our Military. We will be damned if we ever put a crud like that in office again. As i posted previously Our Executive Committee Lincoln Dinner in March will not be Political. but it will be totally honoring our Military Men and Women, especially those about to be deployed or having come back from Deployment in War Zones.
