Edwards Home County's Largest The 28,200-square-foot Edwards home in Orange County is expected to be valued at more than $6 million. RALEIGH Presidential candidate John Edwards and his family recently moved into what, according to county tax officials, is the most valuable home in Orange County. The home, which includes a recreational building attached to the main living quarters, also is probably the largest in the county. The Edwardses residential property will likely have the highest tax value in the county, Orange County Tax Assessor John Smith told . He estimated that the tax value will exceed $6 million when the facility is completed. The rambling structure sits in the middle of a 102-acre estate on Old Greensboro Road west of Chapel Hill. The heavily wooded site and winding driveway ensure that the home is not visible from the road. No Trespassing signs discourage passersby from venturing past the gate. Don Knight, Orange County building plans examiner, told CJ that, including the recreational building, the Edwardses home would be one of the largest in Orange County. Knight approved the building plans that showed the Edwards home totaling 28,200 square feet of connected space. The main house is 10,400 square feet and has two garages. The recreation building, a red, barn-like building containing 15,600 square feet, is connected to the house by a closed-in and roofed structure or varying widths and elevations that totals 2,200 square feet. The main house is all on one level except for a 600-square-foot bedroom and bath area above the guest garage. The recreation building contains a basketball court, a squash court, two stages, a bedroom, kitchen, bathrooms, swimming pool, a four-story tower, and a room designated Johns Lounge. Edwards was the Democratic candidate for vice president in 2006 and a former N.C. senator. Thursday afternoon, the Edwards for President press office was unable to provide information on any additional buildings planned for the estate. What ever happened to the new dog ,Seamus.?
We havent seen him in a while. maybe she will bring him back to campaign with her after a while.
I would imagine the biggest job of the secret service in Chappaqua is walking Seamus every day. He probably makes a nice pet for the agents, living in Hillary's garage and making the payments on the place.
When this man is lecturing us about energy policy, let us remember that he has personally chosen to house his family in an energy-devouring 28,000 square feet of structure.
Conservation is for the little people.
Can we sick Al Gore on him for all that heat he's wasting?
And which care must now be socialized for the good of all!
No matter how cynical I get it's never enough to keep up!!!!
Two garages for two Americas.
Really?
Classy of him to not bring that up during the '04 campaign -- it could have been used to score cheap political points with blue collar voters. ;-)
There are two Americas, one is for shifty liberal trial lawyers with big houses, and the other one pays more for health care due to shifty liberal trial lawyers with big houses.
Sounds a little cramped to me. Can his ego really fit in that small a space? ;)
Has Deadwards encouraged everybody else to "eat cake", yet?
You said, in part: John Edwards is currently working for a UNC program that is supposed to fight poverty.

Less than 2 years into it, he has quit that work. I live in NC, but I think there may still be a pocket or two of poeverty left. However, it may be difficult to see from his living room(s).
He also bankrupted a half dozen NC OB Docs. It would be interesting to hear their stories.
Edwards and his "two Americas"...wonder which one he lives in...
Little bitty John. Champion of all the little bitty people who live in great big houses.
Did you notice how many trees got cut down for that place and how barren the ground is without them?
Heavily wooded, indeed! /sarc
I was hoping he'd have something REALLY nice.
That barren ground will be little bitty John's great big private 18 hole golf course.
DANG! You'd think that he could conserve energy and that ten thousand square feet would be enough!
