My aunt and uncle sent this out to our family at 6:30 AM today. Carrie is my young cousin, a very gifted artist, and the second eldest among her siblings. She and her family are in Michigan.
Prayer reqeust from my aunt and uncle (Carrie is their granddaughter).
This morning on her way to work Carrie's car slid on the highway and into a tree. She has very bad injuries, especially to her head. Her brain is swelling and she is now in surgery. They plan to open her skull to allow for the swelling, and she is not responding.They don't give her parents a lot of hope. We are telling everyone so you can join us in praying for our dear Caroline. They called her parents about 7:45 this morning and they're at the hospital now.
Good news, Carrie is making progress. More prayers are on the way.

PLEASE tell your relatives that oftentimes people in a coma can hear everything going on in the room around them. A good friend's father fell and hit his head HARD - was in a light coma for several days - he appeared to be completely unconscious and unresponsive, but he told us afterwards he could hear everything that was going on around him. Positive, loving, encouraging words would be SO good for Carrie to hear!
My sympathies and best wishes for a good outcome.

Carrie's Aunt D called this morning after talking with Carrie's mom at the hospital. She said the doctors decided it was too early to bring Carrie out of the induced coma. Her cranial pressure is at 13 and it varies. It ought to stabilize better. If it should get to 20, the family has to get out of the way, so we need it stabilized. It has been at 10, or even 8, and sometimes 14. They also want the swelling down enough to identify where they marked for the surgery.Carrie will have another CT scan today. They will check on everything, and maybe check on a couple of blood clots -- which they didn't seem too concerned about the other day.
(Sister) L had planned to go home today, but she is going to stay longer. She needs to be there.
L wrote this a.m. that Carrie had a good night. That's good. We keep them in our thoughts and prayers. Love, [my aunt and uncle]
[This regards talking to Carrie in her coma, speaking life and positive words to her, and canceling negative things spoken about her and in her hearing. I was very glad to see this.]The doctors have commented several times that the situation is very grave and that we shouldn’t expect Caroline to survive.
We have been praying that those words wouldn’t find fertile soil. Please join in that renunciation – we certainly appreciate the doctor’s position in curtailing any false hopes- however – our hope in the Author of life, our risen Lord Jesus, is not false.
We just don’t want to accept words that don’t speak to life for Caroline.

We speak life, health, and healing through the power of the Spirit and pray that You would whisper these words in Carrie's heart as You continue to sustain her. Strengthen her by might by Your Spirit in her inner being and may her own spirit rise up and call You Blessed. We confess that the same Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is within her, and we pray that she would receive every good and perfect gift that You have for her. Thank You for the powerful plans You have for her, Lord. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
AAM, and all others who have remarked on this, I have passed on this wisdom. I was unconscious for four days when I was 17 and I know from that awful experience that you can still hear while "out." And that negative things should never be spoken in the presence of the patient, and that positive things, especially things such as, "This is what happened, this is what the doctors are doing; we are here for you. we will stay here with you, and etc. etc. etc.," have a massive impact for good on the patient.
The doctor's that caused my mom's stroke also said the same thing. We ignored them and stayed by her side. We read to her, we played music and she came out of the coma a month later. Keep up the good work.
