HUNT BLAMES JFK HIT ON LBJ

Only the most far-out conspiracy theorists believe in scenarios like Hunt's. But in a new memoir, "American Spy: My Secret History in the CIA, Watergate & Beyond," due out in April, Hunt, 88, writes: "Having Kennedy liquidated, thus elevating himself to the presidency without having to work for it himself, could have been a very tempting and logical move on Johnson's part.

"LBJ had the money and the connections to manipulate the scenario in Dallas and is on record as having convinced JFK to make the appearance in the first place. He further tried unsuccessfully to engineer the passengers of each vehicle, trying to get his good buddy, Gov. [John] Connolly, to ride with him instead of in JFK's car - where . . . he would have been out of danger."

Very sane comment. Schemers like LBJ will never trust a loose cannon.

And yet, 43 years later, no evidence exists that LBJ had any hand in it and all evidence points to a lone nut (who, if he were alive today, would be a member in good standing at DU) firing three shots from the sixth floor of the depository.

And he loathed and despised the Kennedys (and the feeling was mutual -- he was only chosen as JFK's VP 'cause Kennedy needed him to carry more than just the northeastern states).

If you know anything about shooting, all you gotta do is watch the Zapbruder film to know that the shot that blew Kennnedy's head apart came from his front-right.

That makes at least 2 shooters since the first shot got him in the back.

You are so wrong on many levels but don't have time to debate them. Continue to sleep peacefully with your view of the situation. Johnson did it with many friends in place in Dallas. The CIA head's brother was Major of Dallas. Have you ever been to Dealey Plaza in person? I have been all over it. Kennedy was also shot from the front. Ruby carried the rifles used down to a waiting car past the train tracks. Ruby conveniently was able to kill Oswald. It's called a coverup and many who knew where killed later.

...the LBJ angle actually makes sense.

I have long felt that it was something that should have been looked into further.
LBJ was an animal and I don't doubt for one second he was capable of orchestrating the deed.

I read a book called "A man called Lyndon" right after the JFK assassination. Sadly I loaned it to a friend who never returned it but it was a fascinating biographer of LBJ's rise to power ending up as president. It was only on the market a short time before it was pulled (or covered up). If anyone can find a copy of it I highly recommend you get it and read it.

Although I read it many years ago, David Lifton's book "Best Evidence" was one of the more credible works regarding the JFK assassination.

I highly recommend it.

Perhaps he wouldn't speak because the idea was and is, considering the lack of evidence, ridiculous? I really love how conspiracy theorists whine about the evidence presented in favor of the so-called "official story", but they never provide any evidence for their own stories.

I always thought that LBJ was responsible. He had the connections to cover things up in Texas and was a very ruthless man.

LBJ was the most crooked President in my lifetime. He became amazingly rich for a guy working for government pay. And he was hated by both parties.

Isn't it amazing how little play LBJ gets in the media. They kiss JFK's dead ass every chance they get but it is like LBJ never existed. I guess they know he could not stand a close look. Maybe he will get one after Lady Bird dies.

Kennedy would never have pulled the plug on Vietnam.
He managed to ratchet it up from very covert support to major news story.
He'd already iced his "ally" the president of RVN.
He was NOT a dove but a democrat from the FDR old school (right down to managing the press to his advantage).
If Johnson had him killed it was the best managed, dumbest, move he ever made.

LBJ started out poor but ended up plenty rich. Though marriage, dirty politics, and some very fortuitous deaths (rather like the Clintons) he ended up wealthy in his on right.
