I am glad Shawn's parents are doing this. Shawn needs 100% focus and I think with the parents he has he will get it!

JMHO but they should never have been there in the first place. Putting a child on TV after that? Stupid.

Time will take care of that on its own, but they need to get out of the habit of staging press conferences. The press is like a shark --- the more chum you feed it, the more frenzied and drawn to you it becomes.

Shawn Hornbeck's family looks to step out of spotlight
Someone should gently inform them that appearing on Oprah is not exactly stepping out of the spotlight.

They must have secured that book deal and sold the rights to the TV movie. These people have been all over the television day and night since the recovery of Shawn. No time to get re-acquainted with the son who has been missing for 4 years, much less aid in having him deprogrammed. Their priorities have been elsewhere.

D'ya think? What on earth ever made them think the notariety from this horrific situation would be a good thing?
I ran for local public office last year, and had the experience of being recognized in public and had people pointing and talking about me when I entered a restaurant, and I learned that FAME SUCKS! I treasure my quiet little life where no one knows my name, but maybe that's just me.

What, after Oprah bought them all those new teeth? Well, they should have kept a lower profile in the first place. The world didn't need to see what pain the kid was going through, especially now that it has come out that Shawn helped kidnap the other boy.
This court case is going to be painful for everyone. It's too bad for the boys that it has to be in a court room at all.

The kid is not going to get 100% focus as long as the parents are running a "foundation" out of an office in their home. If they are truly committed to this kid's recovery they need to step away from altruism and the computer and work on being a normal family centered around Shawn's therapy. Unfortunately both altruism and computers are highly addictive to people exposed to the stress and tragedy suffered by the Hornbecks. Both filled the empty hours they suffered while searching for their son. But truly now, they need to step away, not step up.

Does this remind anyone else of Elizabeth Smart? Where she was seen in public and photographed but never ran and people used to say she wanted to be there, and others said she was too scared?
