Not just disloyal and ungrateful, some are simply trolls or people with a one-track agenda. And none of those sort of people are going to contribute one positive nor constructive thing to the future of the United States of America.

"It's a shame... all that knowledge gone to waste."

No, all this thread gone to waste as to what was really being said by Bush by those that continue to drink the kool-aid, which I guess includes you. Tom Brokaw was just commenting that Bush for the first time spoke of global warming, and said that Bush was appealing more to the Dems than to the Pubs. Now you'll hear how its being interpreted out in the great MSM scheme of things. And it's all going to be how Bush was placating the Dems at the expense of his base (unless, of course, you are a Bushbot and can't see that), because that is exactly what Bush was doing.

They can give you a benefit, but like any payment they give you, it should be taxed. You are taxed on your income.

What if they just paid you all the money they use to buy insurance for you, and you paid for your own insurance. Then it would all be taxed, unless we changed the law to allow you to deduct the cost of your insurance.

You have to buy homeowners insurance but you don't get to deduct THAT from your taxes.

We are looking for affirmative solutions that will strengthen our nation by freeing us from our dependence on foreign oil, and spurring a wave of entrepreneurial growth in the form of alternate energy programs. We look forward to working with the President and his party to bring about these changes.

Our proposal is to round up all Republicans to chain them to the bumpers of all Democrat automobiles. This alternate energy program is the only fair way to bring about our international energy independence.

I thought it was a very good speech. Of course, now the Dems will tell us how terrible things are and how Socialism is the only cure.

I would have liked to see a more ambitious energy strategy, however, like a hydrogen fueling infrastructure initiative, or perhaps increased fusion reactor research funding. I know a lot of people here probably aren't happy about his points about CAFE standards but I think it's about time. It's pathetic that my V8-powered, 20-year-old T-Bird gets better gas mileage than a lot of new cars today. It does it by having a highly restrictive design that limits it to 150hp, but gee whiz, if we want to be serious about saving gas, then perhaps we should prioritize between mileage vs. having every decent car have 250+ hp -- when you use those hp they burn an obscene amount of gas. I say bring back the era of the muscle car category where *those* have the super-duper hp but most don't. How many soccer moms really wind out their motors to 6,000 rpm anyway?
