Just because people talk about it doesn't make it true.

"If American forces step back before Baghdad is secure, the Iraqi government would be overrun by extremists on all sides. We could expect an epic battle between Shia extremists backed by Iran, and Sunni extremists aided by al Qaeda and supporters of the old regime. A contagion of violence could spill out across the country – and in time the entire region could be drawn into the conflict."

no, what will happen is that if you destroy (tax) employer provided health plans in this country - those people will go running to government for universal medicare.

when the goverment wants to encourage a behavior, it provides preferential tax treatment. there is nothing wrong with that.

He lacks the conviction and spirit of previous STOUs. It is an uninspired speech given in an uninspired manner. Sorry, but that is the way I see it.

Instead of ""Stretch" Pelosi, she should be called "Blinky." This might be a case of major nervousness...

You are wrong and stop lying about what the President said. His plan was hated by the democrats as you noticed from this reaction because it has less government control and more tax breaks, it is an excellent healthcare plan.

Geez, I hate having to deal with a Bushbot, but....
Yes, this plan doesn't involve more gov't control, however it does. If you have a good health plan through a company you work for, in particular if you retired with a good health benefit plan (after working for it most of your life), if your benefit plan is better than the set amount of 7,500 for a single, and a set amount for a family (I think it was around 14,500 or thereabouts) according to Bush's plan, in other words, your employer pays more than the set amounts for your policy, then you will be taxed on your health plan (THAT'S YOU!!!) because it is considered too good. There's your gov't interference, through the tax code. Then that taxed money will be REDISTRIBUTED to folks who don't have health plans in the form of tax breaks by the GOV'T so that they can go buy their own insurance plan. So, it's the more wealthy, with good plans, who will end up financing, through the tax code, the new plans the poorer folks will go and buy with their TAX BREAKS! Some deal, huh? I'll give you an example, myself. I worked my tail off for many years at a public institution (University), that didn't pay exceptionally well, but the "prize" at the end of my worklife was to have a decent benefit package, which was part of my pay earned year after year. Now Bush comes along, and if my employer paid more than 7,500 for my individual plan, I will be taxed for any amount over that 7,500. Unless, of course, I go out and pay for a new plan myself that will be cheaper than 7,500, and probably have a lot less benefits. This leaves all big corporations and businesses off the hook for healthcare costs, which I am sure they will all love, and which will please that constituency that Bush is beholden to, namely big business. This stinks, and a lot of you out there will be penalized too if you have a good health plan. Too good, according to Bush, and therefore subject to taxes. So, don't you guys get it? It's another tax hike on the rich to redistribute to the poor. Geez, wake up you guys. Just about everything Bush vaguely, because he's just spouting platitudes to the Dems, is a big gov't set of ideas. Legalizing illegal immigration, so all the illegals will then have all the benefits of citizenship, including SS, etc. (amnesty), gov't interference via the IRS in health benefits, environmental standards that will penalize the auto industry and raise your and my cost of purchasing a car. Oh yeah, the acorn didn't fall far from the tree. Bush is such a disappointment.
