I have been through a divorce. The only thing that saved me from loosing everything was that I lived in a community property state, and generally the property is split 50/50. It took me years to recover, but I can see why men don't want to risk loosing it all.

Women are more concerned about their careers. They want financial independence, so that they can be equal to their man.

Also, many young people are selfish and children are expensive. The main reason young people marry is to have families.

Feminism is a factor, more women have hostile opinions of men in general. Just watch OPRAH.

Most folk, though, are just doing the best they can in this life, it ain't always Leave it to Beaver, and it ain't really Desperate Housewives either.

My advice is never get married without a prenup and make sure she has an attorney to look it over and sign it. One thing I forgot in mine if I had to do the prenup over again, include a clause that the party who decides to challenge the prenup must do it on their dime.

When I got married, I made a simple prenup. Whoever owns the property, keeps it (title). I am sole owner of the house, cars and if we got divorced, she won't get the items. On my investments, her name is not on it. She has her own brokerage account and I am working on her investing in it and wanting to build the money up so make it less likely that she has a leg to stand on to try to break the prenup.

One mantra that I've learned to live with, but it still pisses me off:

Her paycheck is "her" money; my paycheck is "our" money.
