Islamic Movement: Suspicious digging under Temple Mount

Group raises charges that religious Jewish groups are making moves to construct Third Temple. Israel Antiquities Authority: There were no excavations, there are none, and none are planned

Israel has been digging underneath the al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount, with the aim of constructing the Third Temple, the chairman of the Islamic Movement in Israel charged.

“This digging is a very dangerous phase in the mosque’s history,” Sheikh Raed Salah said in a statement.

The Islamic Movement in Israel considers itself responsible for “safeguarding the Temple Mount mosques,” and organizes transports to Friday prayers at the Jerusalem site, as well as the yearly summit “Al-Aqsa is threatened.”

Sheikh Salah and his movement dramatically issue similar messages every few months. This time, Salah made the charges in response to photographs issued by the Al-Aqsa Institution, a fund which works under the Islamic Movement’s northern faction to rehabilitate Muslim holy sites.

The pictures were issued two weeks ago in Israel, but met with little response. Recently, however, they were broadcast on the al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya Arab television networks, with the claim that the Religious Zionist “Ateret Cohanim” movement is executing “dangerous and extensive excavations” in the Temple Mount area.

The Islamic Movement rushed to respond, charging that “these excavations threaten the future of the al-Aqsa Mosque, as no one knows the accurate extent, direction and depth of the digging.”

The Islamic Movement believes that the excavations threaten the Temple Mount and are concerned that their ultimate goal is the construction of the Third Temple in place of the al-Aqsa Mosque.

'All excavations are open and known'

The Al-Aqsa Institution said in a statement, “On a visit a week and a half ago we managed to document extensive excavations led by the Jewish Ateret Cohanim movement, via the Antiquities Authority. The area is in the Old City, a mere couple of meters from the al-Buraq Plaza and the al-Aqsa Mosque.

"On the last visit, excavations 25 meters deep, 30 meters wide and no less than 40 meters long were witnessed – in the direction of one of the Temple Mount gates. Local residents told us that they hear digging day and night, and it has already led to fissures in the foundations of their homes.”

The Israel Antiquities Authority issued a response saying that no excavations were being carried out at all in the area of the Temple Mount.

“There were none, there are none, and none are planned,” said Osnat Goaz, spokesperson for the Antiquities Authority.

Regarding accusations of discreet and night-time digging, Goaz said, “The Authority is not acquiring assets, and is certainly not digging in the middle of the night, and definitely not behind closed doors.

"All excavations are open and known, and anyone who claims to know of other excavations is invited to report them to the Antiquities Authority, so we can act according to the law and stop illegal excavation. No digging permit was issued to anyone to dig tunnels to the Temple Mount. If someone knows of illegal excavations, it is his duty to report it to the Antiquities Authority.”

Anat Shalev contributed to the report

So I take it the Chairman of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Raed Salah, also has a problem with Ahmadinejab giving $17 million dollars to the Jamkaran mosque to prepare it for the coming of the Twelfth Iman and Armageddon.

The claim is the Temple did not exist, and that there were no Jews in Israel, no Jewish state, before 1948.

The odd thing is that is the official line of some in the Israeli government.

Why is it that the Muslims always build their holy places on top of other people's holy places - ones that have by and large been destroyed by Muslims?

Blow up that stupid Mosque and be done with it.

In case none of you have ever been in a Mosque... the nicest one in the world to see is the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul. The one thing I remember of it the most is the overpowering stench of stinky feet. Muslims must go in without their shoes and walk across all these polyester prayer mats (rugs) that cover the floor. This seems to absorb all the sweat from the smelly feet of the faithful.

The place really reeks inside. Nasty.

Yes it was indeed.
I was there right after some 3000 people were in there. This was in April of this year. A very nasty stench permeated the place. They had all the doors and windows opened to air it out.

It looks impressive from the outside. The Sultan built it right across from the Hagia Sofia Church, which he had to outdo.

Temple Mount Wall Collapses
Jewish World
12:23 Sep 25 2003
One side of a wall in the Temple Mount compound - completely visible to worshippers at the Western Wall - collapsed on Tuesday, uncovering an area of some 40 square meters of dirt and fill... Archaeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar, a member of the Committee to Prevent the Destruction of Temple Mount Antiquities, said that the collapse is connected with the illegal construction works being carried out on the Temple Mount by the Moslem Waqf... "No one is concerned about preserving the ancient compound," she said, "nor has anyone mapped, surveyed or buttressed the hollow areas under the Temple Mount and under the mosques... If a catastrophe occurs, the whole world will blame Israel."

Arafat -- Holy Sites Are First Targets

September 11, 2000 - YOWUSA.COM, Marshall Masters - In a heated interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour last Thursday, Yasser Arafat may have very well revealed where the next conflict will begin if a peace agreement is not reached soon.

The full interview was aired Sunday morning on CNN's World News program, during which Arafat realized that he had slipped up and then abruptly ended the interview by pulling off his clip-on microphone. He then brusquely departed the interview cubicle surrounded by Palestinian staffers with very concerned looks on their faces. Something was said that should have not been said…

…Arafat responded: "First of all, I respect I had mentioned and promised my people, my nation, my religions, the Christianity and Islam and I'm not going to betray them.

I will continue to liberate all Islamic and Muslim holy places. If not (pointing to himself) another one will come along to liberate it."

At this point, Arafat's body language took a pronounced shift. It was obvious that Amanpour's determined efforts were annoying him. He shifted from his usual relaxed demeanor, and began leaning forward in his chair and began insistently pointing a finger at Amanpour.

Another reporter would have read the obvious shift in body language and moved on to a less intrusive question in order to relax the interviewee. However, by this time in the interview Amanpour was likewise becoming more intense if not personal. That was when she framed her next question with a simple statement that obviously inflamed Arafat. "Your people want an economic future."

The impact of this simple statement was obvious, Amanpour was essentially implying is that economics is the main objective for the majority of Palestinians. With that statement the tension between them rose another notch and Arafat said: "We Palestinians our first targets is our land (the land of the holy places)."

At this point, Arafat leaned towards her and asked her if she knew what the holy places were, and after expressing several choppy thoughts suddenly leaned back in his chair and immediately changed his body language. The change was unmistakable. He obviously realized that he had said something that he would not have said, were he in control of the interview.

He feigned a quick smile and announced that the interview was over. He then began pulling the clip-on microphone from his lapel and a very concerned Palestinian aide walked onto the set to help him undo the wireless microphone device.

Without so much as a goodbye, he left leaving his back to a shocked Amampur who could only mumble her thanks for the interview.

An Unfortunate Choice of Language?
