Toyota often announces a 'recall' even if no one has complained. Toyota wants really good cars out there. And they have earned a superb reputation.

I do not own a Toyota but would NEVER buy a car from a company who knows of a deadly problem - the Pinto gas tank comes to mind - and compares the cost of the fix to the estimated claims from the problem if they don't fix it.

Ford Lied - People Died

Bravo Toyota!

Where's that graphic of the BS meter when you need it?

Yep. Ford never calculated the immense cost of a bad reputation.

Let's not forget an even more recent example - the Ford truck cruise control fires - where people have ACTUALLY died, and houses have ACTUALLY burned down, and Ford still didn't start recalling trucks until a lawsuit was threatened.

My '92 Toyota 4X4 truck was recalled for a faulty steering rod or something 2 yrs. ago. I was reluctant since there was only 2 or so cases of bad steering reported in how many millions produced let alone abused off-road. I had the truck at the dealer for some other service so I had them do the recall. What a difference it made! 175,000 miles and it drives like a new truck. I'm waiting for Toyota to put a diesel in their new Tundra.

"...the Pinto gas tank comes to mind"

Are you referring to the Ford Pinto with the exploding gas tank that they put the exploding Firestone 500 tires on? /s

Bull! And the class action lawsuit against toileta covering about 3.5 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles a couple weeks ago? Was that a voluntary too Of course that was quite low key in the hate-America media.

My Duramax will make a Toyota pickup look like a Soap Box Derby cart any day, anywhere.

They are wannabees at best.

Not referring to any corporation by name, but I tend to think that a corporation heavily subsidized by its own national government is in a better postion to absorb financial setbacks -- like a product recall for example -- than a coporation with zero government backing.
