Toyota to recall 533,000 SUVs, trucks

TOKYO (Reuters) -- Toyota Motor Corp. plans to recall about 533,000 Sequoia SUVs and Tundra pickup trucks in the United States to repair faulty components that could make the vehicles difficult to steer.

Six injuries and 11 accidents were reported as a result of the defect, Japan's top automaker said Friday.

After that amount of use, it most certainly IS a poor quality issue. Connecting rods just don't throw randomly. 8 years is INCREDIBLY premature.

As for maintenance, I can guarantee it was impeccably maintained.

One is, one isn't. The 87 XJ6 Vanden Plas isn't, the 2000 XKR Convertible is - and you can see where the Ford beancounters tried to save some bucks compared to the older cars. Still a very good car, though. However, the all-Ford designs (which my car is not) are turning out to be disasters.
