House seeks more oil royalties, kills tax breaks

The new Democratic-led House of Representatives on Thursday passed legislation aimed at "Big Oil" that would roll back some industry tax breaks and force energy companies to pay more drilling royalties, valued at $14 billion over 10 years.

Passage of the bill capped House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record)'s 100-hour agenda, which also included measures to raise the minimum wage, lower student loan interest rates and bolster homeland security.

The $14 billion raised from the additional royalties and repealed tax breaks would fund research for renewable energy sources

I guess being in New York, you have a lot of experience in the petroleum sector, eh? /s

Maybe you ought to go to another thread where you might know a wee bit about the topic. This topic is obviously out of your league...

Not Fuel prices up... just more fuel coming from overseas.

Why buy from American Fuel companies that cost more?

And this is the bill to reduce dependence on foreign sources of oil?

The irony... (and stupidity of democrats and American people who don't care to know better)

Hey at least I don't go around pretending to be the second coming of the Archbishop of Florence. Do you have a mitre in your closet? What's Latin for "I'm a sanctimonious windbag"?

Sanctimonious windbag? That's too funny! Pointing out that you don't have a clue about your subject is "being sanctimonious" and "pretending to be the second coming"? Whew! you need to get a grip...

The big buck payoffs begin. Every cent of the $14 billion will be wasted on stupid politically motivated "research."

"Renewables"

I laugh (shake my head actually) every time I see the little note on the electric powered blow driers in public bathrooms that explains how using them saves trees and reduces paper waste.

Let's see... Using electricity, usually generated by gas or coal fired plants, helps to replace paper, a renewable resource!

half-billion dollar parachutes

I agree that these boards and their officer have bastardized the system, but I would prefer if the rats went after them individually.

Lol first they blame the Bush admin for high oil prices, then when the prices start falling, they are doing everythign they can to make oil companies raise the prices again? BRILLIANT! I can't beleive these bums got voted into office- the money will NOT go to the public- it will go to congress. The democreeps accuse big oil of getting rich off other people the easy way- YET the demoturds do exactyl what they accuse 'big oil' of- lining their pockets at the expense of the oil companies who are doing all the expensive work of research, developement, exploration etc.
